^[c]O Lord, you have examined me
    and you know me.
² You know when I sit and when I stand;^[d]
    you perceive my thoughts from a distance.
³ You mark when I go out and when I lie down;
    all my ways are open to you.
⁴ A word is not even on my tongue
    and you, O Lord, are completely aware of it.
⁵ You enfold me from in front and from behind,
    and you place your hand upon me.^[e]
6 Your knowledge is beyond my comprehension,
    far too sublime for me to attain.

^13 [a]You created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
¹⁴ I praise you because I am wonderfully made;
    awesome are your works,
    as I know very well.
¹⁵ My body was not hidden from you
    when I was being made in secret.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
    you saw me in the womb.^[b]
16 [c]The sum total of my days
    were all recorded in your book.^[d]
My life was fashioned
    before it had come into being.
¹⁷ How precious to me are your designs, O God!
    How vast in number they are!
¹⁸ If I were to attempt to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,^[e]
    I am still with you.

“My heart rejoices in the Lord,
    my horn is lifted high in the Lord.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
    for I rejoice in my salvation.
² There is no holy one like the Lord,
    there is none beside you,
nor is there a rock like our God.
^3 [b]Do not talk so proudly
    nor let arrogance come forth from your mouth,
for the Lord is a knowing God,
    and by him actions are weighed.
⁴ The bows of the mighty are broken,
    the feeble are clothed in strength.
⁵ The well-fed hire themselves out for bread,
    and the hungry cease to hunger.
The barren has borne seven times,
    while she who has many children grows faint.
⁶ The Lord kills and brings to life.
    He brings down to Sheol, and lifts up.
⁷ The Lord makes poor and makes rich,
    he humbles and he also exalts.
⁸ He raises the poor from the dust,
    and from the refuse he lifts up the beggar,
To seat them among princes,
    that they might inherit a throne of glory.
For the Lord’s are the pillars of the earth,
    and he has set the world upon them.
⁹ He will guard the feet of his saints,
    but the wicked will be cut off in the darkness,
    for by strength none shall prevail.
¹⁰ Those who oppose the Lord will be shattered,
    he will thunder against them from the heavens,
    the Lord will judge the ends of the earth,
He will give strength to his king,
    and exalt the horn of his anointed one.”

¹⁹ “Did not Moses give you the Law?
And not one of you keeps the Law.
Why are you trying to kill me?”

“I performed a single work,^[a]
and all of you are astonished.
²² Moses gave you circumcision
—although it did not originate with Moses
but with the patriarchs—
and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
²³ Now if a man can be circumcised on the Sabbath
so that the Law of Moses may not be broken,
why are you angry with me
for making a man’s entire body
completely healthy on the Sabbath?
²⁴ Do not base your judgment on appearances;
judge according to what is right.”
