Psalm 47

Psalm 47[a]

The Lord, King of All Nations

For the director.[b] A psalm of the sons of Korah.

All you peoples, clap your hands,[c]
    shout to God with cries of gladness.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome;
    he is the great King over all the earth.
He subdued nations under us
    and brought peoples under our feet.
He chose our inheritance for us,
    the pride of Jacob,[d] whom he loved. Selah
[e]God has ascended amid shouts of joy;
    the Lord, amid the sound of trumpets.
Sing praises to God, sing praises;
    sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the King of the entire earth;
    sing hymns of praise to him.
God reigns over all the nations;
    God is seated on his holy throne.
10 The princes of the nations assemble
    with the people of the God of Abraham;
for the rulers[f] of the earth belong to God,
    and he is exalted on high.

Deuteronomy 34:1-7

The Death of Moses

Chapter 34[a]

Moses climbed up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo,[b] the peak of Pisgah, that is opposite Jericho. The Lord showed him the entire land, from Gilead to Dan, as well as all of Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all of the land of Judah up to the western sea, the Negeb, the district of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palms, up to Zoar. Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you are not going to cross over into it.”

Moses, the servant of the Lord, died in the land of Moab, as the Lord had foretold. He buried him[c] in the land of Moab, in the valley opposite Beth-peor, but up to the present no one knows where his grave is. Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyesight was not weak, nor was his strength diminished.

John 16:4-11

But I have told you this
so that when the hour arrives
you may remember that I forewarned you about them.

The Spirit of Truth, Our Guide to All Truth[a]

“I did not tell you all this previously
because I was with you.
But now I am going away
to the one who sent me.
Not one of you asks me,
‘Where are you going?’
However, because I have told you this,
you are overcome with grief.
“Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth:
it is better for you that I depart.
For if I do not go away,
the Advocate will not come to you,
whereas if I go,
I will send him to you.
“And when he comes,
he will prove the world wrong
about sin and righteousness and judgment:
about sin,
because they do not believe in me;
10 about righteousness,
because I am going to the Father
and you will see me no longer;
11 about judgment,
because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
