Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
61 “The Spirit of the LORD God is upon me. Therefore, the LORD has anointed me. He has sent me to preach good tidings to the poor, to bind up the broken-hearted, to preach liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound,
2 “to preach the acceptable year of the LORD, and the Day of Vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
3 “to tend to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of gladness for the spirit of heaviness, so that they might be called ‘Trees of Righteousness’, the planting of the LORD, so that He might be glorified.”
4 And they shall build the old waste places, raise up the former desolation. And they shall repair the cities that were desolate and waste throughout many generations.
8 “For I, the LORD, love judgment and hate robbery for Burnt Offering. And I will direct their work in truth. And I will make an everlasting Covenant with them.
9 “And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their buds among the people. All who see them shall know them, that they are the seed which the LORD has blessed.”
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD. My soul shall be joyful in my God. For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation and covered me with the robe of righteousness. He has decked me like a bridegroom, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the Earth brings forth her bud, and as the garden causes to grow that which is sown in it, so the LORD God will cause righteousness to grow, and praise, before all the heathen.
126 When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joy. Then they said among the heathen, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
3 The LORD has done great things for us! We rejoice!
4 O LORD, bring back our captives as the rivers in the south.
5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6 They went weeping and carried precious seed. They shall return with joy and bring their sheaves. A song of degrees, or Psalm, of Solomon
46 Then Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord.
47 “And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
48 “For He has looked on the poor degree of His servant. For behold, from now on all ages shall call me blessed.
49 “Because He Who is mighty has done great things for me, and Holy is His Name.
50 “And His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him.
51 “He Who showed strength with His arm, He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 “He has put down the mighty from their seats and exalted those of low degree.
53 “He has filled the hungry with good things and sent away the rich empty.
54 “He has upheld Israel, His servant, to be mindful of His mercy,
55 “(as He has spoken to our fathers – that is, to Abraham and his seed) forever.”
16 Rejoice always.
17 Pray continually.
18 Give thanks in all things. For this is the will of God toward you in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 Do not ignore prophecy.
21 Test all things. Keep that which is good.
22 Abstain from any appearance of evil.
23 Now, may the very God of Peace sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless, until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He Who calls you. He will also do it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.
7 One who came for a witness, to testify about the Light; so that through him all might believe.
8 He was not the Light, but bore witness of the Light;
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 And he confessed and did not deny, but said plainly, “I am not the Christ.”
21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said, “I am the voice of him who cries in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord’, as said the Prophet Isaiah.”
24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, and said to him, “Why do you baptize, then, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water. But there is One among you Whom you do not know.
27 It is He who comes after me, Who was before me, Whose sandal straps I am not worthy to unloose.”
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John baptized.
