Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Thanksgiving for Return from Captivity.
A Song of Ascents.
126 When the Lord (A)brought back [a]the captive ones of Zion,
We were (B)like those who dream.
2 Then our (C)mouth was filled with laughter
And our (D)tongue with joyful shouting;
Then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has (E)done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us;
We are (F)glad.
God Answers the Prophet
2 I will (A)stand on my guard post
And station myself on the rampart;
And I will (B)keep watch to see (C)what He will speak to me,
And how I may reply [a]when I am reproved.
2 Then the Lord answered me and said,
“(D)Record the vision
And inscribe it on tablets,
That [b]the one who [c]reads it may run.
3 “For the vision is yet for the (E)appointed time;
It [d]hastens toward the goal and it will not [e]fail.
Though it tarries, (F)wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it (G)will not delay.
4 “Behold, as for the (H)proud one,
His soul is not right within him;
But the (I)righteous will live by his [f]faith.
5 “Furthermore, (J)wine betrays the (K)haughty man,
So that he does not (L)stay at home.
He (M)enlarges his appetite like Sheol,
And he is like death, never satisfied.
He also gathers to himself all nations
And collects to himself all peoples.
7 But (A)whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss [a]in view of the surpassing value of [b](B)knowing (C)Christ Jesus my Lord, [c]for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having (D)a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, (E)the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may (F)know Him and (G)the power of His resurrection and [d](H)the fellowship of His sufferings, being (I)conformed to His death; 11 [e]in order that I may (J)attain to the resurrection from the dead.
