Version
Psalm 119:41-48

41 Lord, show me your love,
and save me as you have promised.
42 I have an answer for people who insult me,
because I trust what you say.
43 Never keep me from speaking your truth,
because I depend on your fair laws.
44 I will obey your teachings
    forever and ever.
45 So I will live in freedom,
because I want to follow your orders.
46 I will discuss your rules with kings
    and will not be ashamed.
47 I enjoy obeying your commands,
    which I love.
48 I praise your commands, which I love,
and I think about your demands.

Deuteronomy 26:16-27:7

Obey the Lord’s Commands

16 Today the Lord your God commands you to obey all these rules and laws; be careful to obey them with your whole being. 17 Today you have said that the Lord is your God, and you have promised to do what he wants you to do—to keep his rules, commands, and laws. You have said you will obey him. 18 And today the Lord has said that you are his very own people, as he has promised you. But you must obey his commands. 19 He will make you greater than all the other nations he made. He will give you praise, fame, and honor, and you will be a holy people to the Lord your God, as he has said.

The Law Written on Stones

27 Then Moses, along with the elders of Israel, commanded the people, saying, “Keep all the commands I have given you today. Soon you will cross the Jordan River to go into the land the Lord your God is giving you. On that day set up some large stones and cover them with plaster. When you cross over, write all the words of these teachings on them. Then you may enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a fertile land, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised. After you have crossed the Jordan River, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and cover them with plaster. Build an altar of stones there to the Lord your God, but don’t use any iron tool to cut the stones; build the altar of the Lord your God with stones from the field. Offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God, and offer fellowship offerings there, and eat them and rejoice before the Lord your God.

Matthew 19:16-22

A Rich Young Man’s Question

16 A man came to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to have life forever?”

17 Jesus answered, “Why do you ask me about what is good? Only God is good. But if you want to have life forever, obey the commands.”

18 The man asked, “Which commands?”

Jesus answered, “‘You must not murder anyone; you must not be guilty of adultery; you must not steal; you must not tell lies about your neighbor; 19 honor your father and mother;[a] and love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”[b]

20 The young man said, “I have obeyed all these things. What else do I need to do?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, then go and sell your possessions and give the money to the poor. If you do this, you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

22 But when the young man heard this, he left sorrowfully, because he was rich.
