Psalm 31:1-5

To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David.

¶ In thee, O LORD, have I waited; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in thy righteousness.

Incline thine ear unto me; deliver me speedily; be thou my strong rock, for a house of defence to save me.

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake thou shalt lead me and guide me.

Thou shalt pull me out of the net that they have laid in secret for me; for thou art my strength.

Into thy hand shall I commit my spirit; thou shalt ransom me, O LORD God of truth.

Psalm 31:15-16

15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those that persecute me.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy slave; save me for thy mercies’ sake.

Jeremiah 26:20-24

20 There was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

21 And Jehoiakim the king heard his words and all his mighty men and all the princes, and the king sought to put him to death, but when Urijah understood it, he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt.

22 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him into Egypt;

23 and they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

24 Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

John 8:48-59

48 Then the Jews answered, and said unto him, Do we not say well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

49 Jesus answered, I do not have a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

50 And I seek not my own glory; there is one that seeks it and judges.

51 ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If anyone keeps my word, he shall not see death forever.

52 Then the Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keeps my word, he shall not taste death forever?

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham who died? and the prophets died; whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say that he is your God;

55 yet ye have not known him, but I know him; and if I should say, I do not know him, I shall be a liar like unto you; but I know him and keep his word.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.

57 Then the Jews said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.

59 Then they took up stones to cast at him, but Jesus concealed himself and went out of the temple, and going through the midst of them, went away.
