Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Reign of Yahweh’s Anointed
2 Why do (A)the [a]nations rage
And the peoples (B)meditate on a vain thing?
2 The (C)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
(D)Against Yahweh and against His [b](E)Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us (F)tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
4 He who [c]sits in the heavens (G)laughs,
The Lord (H)mocks them.
5 Then He speaks to them in His (I)anger
And (J)terrifies them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have [d]installed (K)My King
Upon Zion, (L)My holy mountain.”
7 “I will surely tell of the [e]decree of Yahweh:
He said to Me, ‘You are (M)My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and (N)I will surely give (O)the [f]nations as Your inheritance,
And the (P)ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 You shall [g](Q)break them with a [h]rod of iron,
You shall (R)shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’”
2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am (A)Yahweh; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as [a](B)God Almighty, but by (C)My name, Yahweh, I was not known to them. 4 And I also established (D)My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the [b]land in which they sojourned. 5 Furthermore I have (E)heard the groaning of the sons of Israel because the Egyptians are holding them in slavery, and I have remembered My covenant. 6 Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘(F)I am Yahweh, and (G)I will bring you out from under the hard labors of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their slavery. I will also (H)redeem you with (I)an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 Then I will take you [c](J)for My people, and (K)I will be [d]your God; and (L)you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the hard labors of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land which (M)I [e]swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and (N)I will give it to you for a possession; (O)I am Yahweh.’” 9 So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses on (P)account of their weakness of spirit and [f]hard slavery.
Jesus, High Priest of a New Covenant
8 Now the main point in what is being said is this: we have such a (A)high priest, who sat down at (B)the right hand of the throne of the (C)Majesty in the heavens, 2 a (D)minister [a]in the [b]holy places and [c]in the (E)true [d]tabernacle, which the Lord (F)pitched, not man. 3 For every (G)high priest is appointed (H)to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. 4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who (I)offer the gifts according to the Law; 5 who serve (J)a copy and (K)shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses [e]was (L)warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “(M)See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.” 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the (N)mediator of (O)a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. 7 For (P)if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.
