9 [a]When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not be so thorough that you reap the field to its very edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.(A) 10 Likewise, you shall not pick your vineyard bare, nor gather up the grapes that have fallen. These things you shall leave for the poor and the alien. I, the Lord, am your God.
11 [b]You shall not steal. You shall not deceive or speak falsely to one another.(B) 12 You shall not swear falsely by my name, thus profaning the name of your God.(C) I am the Lord.
13 You shall not exploit your neighbor. You shall not commit robbery. You shall not withhold overnight the wages of your laborer.(D) 14 [c]You shall not insult the deaf, or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but you shall fear your God. I am the Lord.
15 You shall not act dishonestly in rendering judgment. Show neither partiality to the weak nor deference to the mighty, but judge your neighbor justly.(E) 16 You shall not go about spreading slander among your people; nor shall you stand by idly when your neighbor’s life is at stake. I am the Lord.
17 [d]You shall not hate any of your kindred in your heart. Reprove your neighbor openly so that you do not incur sin because of that person.(F) 18 Take no revenge and cherish no grudge against your own people. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.(G)

33 Lord, teach me the way of your statutes;
I shall keep them with care.(A)
34 Give me understanding to keep your law,
to observe it with all my heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,(B)
for that is my delight.
36 Direct my heart toward your testimonies

37 Avert my eyes from what is worthless;
by your way give me life.
38 For your servant, fulfill your promise
made to those who fear you.
39 Turn away from me the taunts I dread,
for your judgments are good.
40 See how I long for your precepts;
in your righteousness give me life.
10 [a]According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful how he builds upon it, 11 for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ.
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?(A) 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God, which you are, is holy.[a]
18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you considers himself wise in this age, let him become a fool so as to become wise.(B) 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God, for it is written:(C)
“He catches the wise in their own ruses,”
20 and again:
“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.”(D)
21 [b]So let no one boast about human beings, for everything belongs to you,(E) 22 Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or the present or the future: all belong to you, 23 and you to Christ, and Christ to God.
Teaching About Retaliation. 38 [a]“You have heard that it was said,(A) ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 (B)But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on [your] right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. 40 If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. 41 Should anyone press you into service for one mile,[b] go with him for two miles.(C) 42 Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.(D)
Love of Enemies.[c] 43 (E)“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’(F) 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors[d] do the same? 47 And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?[e] 48 So be perfect,[f] just as your heavenly Father is perfect.(G)
