Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Yahweh Is Holy
19 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘(A)You shall be holy, for I, Yahweh your God, am holy.
Various Statutes
9 ‘(A)Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the afflicted and for the sojourner. I am Yahweh your God.
11 ‘(B)You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, (C)nor lie to one another. 12 (D)And you shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to (E)profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh.
13 ‘(F)You shall not oppress your neighbor nor rob him. (G)The wages of a hired man shall not remain with you overnight until morning. 14 You shall not curse a deaf man nor (H)place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God; I am Yahweh.
15 ‘(I)You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness. 16 You shall not go about as (J)a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand against the [a](K)life of your neighbor; I am Yahweh.
17 ‘You (L)shall not hate your brother in your heart; you (M)may surely reprove your neighbor, and so not bear sin because of him. 18 (N)You shall not take vengeance, (O)and you shall not keep your anger against the sons of your people, but (P)you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am Yahweh.
He
33 (A)Instruct me, O Yahweh, in the way of Your statutes,
That I may observe it to the end.
34 (B)Cause me to understand, that I may (C)observe Your law
And keep it (D)with all my heart.
35 Cause me to walk in the (E)path of Your commandments,
For I (F)delight in it.
36 (G)Cause my heart to incline to Your testimonies
And not to (H)dishonest gain.
37 Cause my (I)eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness,
And (J)revive me in Your ways.
38 (K)Cause Your [a]word to be established for Your slave,
[b]As that which produces fear for You.
39 (L)Cause my reproach which I dread to pass away,
For Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I (M)long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.
16 (A)Do you not know that (B)you are a [a]sanctuary of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the [b]sanctuary of God, God will destroy him, for the [c]sanctuary of God is holy, and [d]that is what you are.
18 (C)Let no man deceive himself. (D)If any man among you thinks that he is wise in (E)this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For (F)the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is (G)the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20 and again, “(H)The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” 21 So then (I)let no one boast in men. For (J)all things belong to you, 22 (K)whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or (L)life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and (M)you belong to Christ, and (N)Christ belongs to God.
38 “(A)You have heard that it was said, ‘(B)An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but (C)whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your [a]tunic, let him have your [b]garment also. 41 And whoever [c]forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 (D)Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
43 “(E)You have heard that it was said, ‘(F)You shall love your neighbor (G)and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, (H)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may [d]be (I)sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For (J)if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Therefore [e](K)you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
