Version
Psalm 119:33-40

33 [a]Teach me, O Lord, the way of your decrees,
and I will follow it to the end.[b]
34 Give me understanding, and I will observe your law
and obey it with all my heart.[c]
35 Guide me in the way of your precepts,
for in them is my delight.
36 Dispose my heart to follow your statutes
    and to flee selfish gain.
37 Turn my eyes away from what is unimportant,
and let me live in your way.
38 Fulfill your word to your servant,
so that you may be feared.[d]
39 Let me escape the disgrace that I dread,
    for your judgments are good.
40 See, I long for your commandments;
in your righteousness preserve my life.

Leviticus 24:10-23

10 Consequences of Blasphemy.[a] The son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel, and this son of the Israelite woman got into a fight with an Israelite man. 11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the name of the Lord and cursed. They brought him to Moses. His mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. 12 They put him under guard until the will of the Lord might be revealed to them. 13 The Lord spoke to Moses saying, 14 “Bring the one who has cursed outside of the camp. Let everyone who heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the assembly stone him. 15 You shall speak to the children of Israel saying, ‘Whoever curses his God shall bear his guilt. 16 He who blasphemes the name of the Lord must be put to death. All of the assembly shall stone him, the alien as well as the native born. He who blasphemes the Lord shall be put to death.[b]

17 “ ‘He who kills any man must be put to death. 18 He who kills an animal shall make restitution for it, an animal for an animal. 19 When a man wounds a neighbor, whatever he has done shall be done to him: 20 broken bone for broken bone, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. In whatever way he wounded another, so it shall be done to him. 21 He who kills an animal shall make restitution and he who kills a man shall be put to death. 22 You shall have one set of laws for both the alien and for the native born. I am the Lord, your God.’ ”

23 Moses told the children of Israel that they should bring the man who had cursed outside of the camp and stone him to death. The children of Israel did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Matthew 7:1-12

Chapter 7

Do Not Judge.[a] “Do not judge, so that you in turn may not be judged. For you will be judged in the same way that you judge others, and the measure that you use for others will be used to measure you.

“Why do you take note of the splinter in your brother’s eye but do not notice the wooden plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while all the time the wooden plank remains in your own? You hypocrite! First remove the wooden plank from your own eye, and then you will be able to see clearly enough to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.

Do Not Profane Sacred Things.[b] “Do not give to dogs anything that is holy. And do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and then proceed to tear you to pieces.

Ask, Seek, Knock.[c] “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and those who seek will find, and to those who knock the door will be opened.

“Is there anyone among you who would give a stone to his son if he asks for bread, 10 or hand him a snake if he asks for a fish? 11 If you then, despite your evil nature, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

12 The Golden Rule of Love.[d]“In everything, deal with others as you would like them to deal with you. This is the Law and the Prophets.
