Psalm 146

The Lord—Our Helper

146 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in a son of a man, who cannot save us. When his spirit leaves, he returns to the earth. His thoughts end on that day. Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob, and whose hope is in the Lord his God. The Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them. He is faithful forever. He helps those who have a bad power over them. He gives food to the hungry. And He sets those in prison free.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are brought down. The Lord loves those who are right and good. The Lord keeps the strangers safe. He takes care of the children who have no father and the woman whose husband has died. But He destroys the way of the sinful. 10 The Lord will rule forever. Your God, O Zion, will rule over all people for all time. Praise the Lord!

Exodus 29:1-9

Aaron and His Sons Set Apart

29 “This is what you will do to set them apart to serve as religious leaders for Me. Take one young bull and two rams that are perfect. Have bread without yeast, and bread mixed with oil, and hard bread made without yeast and spread with oil. Make them of fine grain flour. Put them in one basket. Then bring them in the basket with the bull and the two rams. Bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the meeting tent, and wash them with water. Take the clothing and dress Aaron in the long coat, the clothing over the linen vest, the linen vest, and the breast-piece. Put on him the well-made belt of the linen vest. Put the covering on his head, and the holy crown on the head covering. Then take the oil for holy use and pour it on his head to set him apart for My work. Bring his sons and dress them with long coats. Put belts on Aaron and his sons. Tie head coverings on them. And they will be religious leaders by law for all time. So you will set apart Aaron and his sons for My work.

Acts 22:6-21

The Change in Paul’s Life on the Damascus Road

“I was near Damascus. All at once, about noon, I saw a bright light from heaven shining around me. I fell to the ground. A voice said to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you work so hard against Me?’ I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, the One you are working against.’ Those who were with me saw the light. But they did not hear Him speaking to me. 10 I asked, ‘Lord, what should I do?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Get up! Go to Damascus. You will be told what to do there.’

11 “I could not see because of the bright light. Those who were with me had to lead me by the hand until we came to Damascus. 12 Ananias lived there. He obeyed the Law and was respected by all the Jews. 13 He came and stood near me and said, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ At once I was able to see him. 14 Then Ananias said, ‘The God of our fathers chose you to know what He wants done. He chose you to see Jesus Christ, the One Right with God, and to hear His voice. 15 You are to tell all men what you have seen and heard. 16 What are you waiting for? Get up! Be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on His name.’

Paul Is Called to Work with the People Who Are Not Jews

17 “I came back to Jerusalem. When I was praying in the house of God, I had a dream. 18 I saw Him as He said to me, ‘Get out of Jerusalem! They will not listen to you when you tell them about Me!’ 19 I said, ‘Lord, they know I took Christians out of every Jewish place of worship. I had them beaten and put in prison. 20 Also when Stephen was killed, I stood there and watched them throw stones at him. Those who threw the stones had me watch their coats.’ 21 The Lord said to me, ‘Go! I will send you far away to the people who are not Jews.’
