Psalm 146

The Concluding Hallel—Pss 146–150[a]

Psalm 146[b]

Trust in God, Creator and Redeemer

[c]Alleluia.

Praise the Lord, O my soul.[d]
    I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God throughout my life.[e]
Do not place your trust in princes,
    in mortal men who have no power to save.
When the spirit departs, they return to the earth;
    on that very day all their plans come to naught.[f]
[g]Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,[h]
    whose hope is in the Lord, his God,
the Maker of heaven and earth,[i]
    the sea, and everything in them—
    the one who keeps faith forever.
He grants justice to the oppressed[j]
    and gives bread to the hungry.
The Lord releases prisoners
    and opens the eyes of those who cannot see.[k]
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the stranger
    and sustains the fatherless and the widow,[l]
    but he blocks the way of the wicked.
10 The Lord will reign forever,[m]
    your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Alleluia.

Exodus 29:1-9

Chapter 29

Consecration of the Priests. “You shall observe this rite to consecrate them as my priests: Take a bull and two rams without defect, and unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers with oil spread on them. You shall make them of fine wheat flour. Put them in one basket and bring them and offer them together with the young bull and the two rams.

“Then have Aaron and his sons approach the entrance to the meeting tent and wash them with water. Take the garments and clothe Aaron in the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastplate. Wrap the skillfully woven band of the ephod around him. Place the turban on his head and put the holy crown over the turban. Then pour the anointing oil on his head and anoint him.

“As for his sons, make them draw near and clothe them in their tunics, wrap their sashes around them, and tie their caps on them. They will participate in the priesthood by an eternal statute. This is how you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons.

Acts 22:6-21

“While I was on my way and drawing near Damascus, around midday a great light from the sky suddenly shone all around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ Then he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’

“Now those who were with me saw the light, but they did not hear the voice of the one who was speaking to me. 10 I asked, ‘What do you want me to do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus. There you will be told everything that you have been appointed to do.’ 11 I could not see because of the brilliance of that light, and so my companions led me by the hand to Damascus.

12 “A man named Ananias, who was a devout observer of the Law and highly regarded by all the Jews who lived there, 13 came to see me. Standing beside me, he said, ‘Brother Saul, regain your sight.’ Instantly, I saw him.

14 “Then he said, ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear him speak. 15 For you will be his witness[a] to tell all what you have seen and heard. 16 And now, what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name.’

17 “After I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance 18 and saw Jesus there. ‘Hurry and leave Jerusalem at once,’ he said, ‘because they will not accept your testimony about me.’ 19 But I replied, ‘Lord, they themselves know that in every synagogue I used to imprison and scourge those who believe in you. 20 And while the blood of your martyr Stephen was being shed, I myself stood by, giving my approval and guarding the coats of his murderers.’ 21 Then he said to me, ‘Go! I am sending you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”
