Psalm 96

Psalm 96[a]

God of the Universe

I

Sing to the Lord a new song;(A)
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    proclaim his salvation day after day.
Tell his glory among the nations;
    among all peoples, his marvelous deeds.(B)

II

[b]For great is the Lord and highly to be praised,
    to be feared above all gods.(C)
For the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.(D)
Splendor and power go before him;
    power and grandeur are in his holy place.

III

Give to the Lord, you families of nations,
    give to the Lord glory and might;
    give to the Lord the glory due his name!(E)
Bring gifts and enter his courts;
    bow down to the Lord, splendid in holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth;
10     (F)declare among the nations: The Lord is king.
The world will surely stand fast, never to be shaken.
    He rules the peoples with fairness.

IV

11 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
    let the sea and what fills it resound;(G)
12     let the plains be joyful and all that is in them.
Then let all the trees of the forest rejoice
13     before the Lord who comes,
    who comes to govern the earth,(H)
To govern the world with justice
    and the peoples with faithfulness.

1 Kings 16:29-34

Reign of Ahab. 29 Ahab, son of Omri, became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa, king of Judah. Ahab, son of Omri, reigned over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years.

30 Ahab, son of Omri, did what was evil in the Lord’s sight more than any of his predecessors. 31 It was not enough for him to follow the sins of Jeroboam, son of Nebat. He even married Jezebel, daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal, and worship him. 32 Ahab set up an altar to Baal in the house of Baal which he built in Samaria, 33 and also made an asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than any of the kings of Israel before him. 34 (A)During his reign, Hiel from Bethel rebuilt Jericho. At the cost of Abiram, his firstborn son, he laid the foundation, and at the cost of Segub, his youngest son, he set up the gates, according to the word of the Lord spoken through Joshua, son of Nun.[a]

2 Corinthians 11:1-6

Chapter 11

Preaching Without Charge.[a] If only you would put up with a little foolishness from me![b] Please put up with me.(A) [c]For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God, since I betrothed you to one husband to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.(B) But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve[d] by his cunning, your thoughts may be corrupted from a sincere [and pure] commitment to Christ.(C) For if someone comes and preaches another Jesus[e] than the one we preached,(D) or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it well enough. [f](E)For I think that I am not in any way inferior to these “superapostles.” Even if I am untrained in speaking, I am not so in knowledge;(F) in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.[g]
