Psalm 110

Yahweh Gives Authority to His Messiah

Of David. A psalm.[a]

110 A declaration of Yahweh to my lord,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Yahweh will send out your mighty scepter from Zion;
rule in the midst of your enemies.
Your people will volunteer[b] in the day of your power.[c]
In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,
you will have the dew of your youth.[d]
Yahweh has sworn and he will not change his mind,
“You are a priest forever
according to the manner of Melchizedek.”
O Lord, at your right hand
he will shatter kings in the day of his anger.
He will judge among the nations;
he will fill them with corpses.
He will shatter the rulers[e] of many countries.
He will drink from the stream by the road;
therefore he will lift up his head.

Proverbs 22:1-9

22 A reputation[a] is to be chosen rather than[b] great riches;
    favor is better than silver and gold.[c]
Rich and poor have much in common;
    Yahweh is the maker of all of them.
The clever sees danger and hides,
    but the simple go on and suffer.
The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh—
    wealth and honor and life.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
    he who guards himself[d] will keep away from them.
Train the child concerning his way;[e]
    even when he is old, he will not stray from it.
The rich will rule over the poor,
    and the borrower is a slave of the lender.[f]
He who sows injustice will reap calamity,
    and the rod of his anger will fail.
He who is generous[g] will be blessed,
    for he gives to the poor from his own bread.

Luke 6:27-31

The Sermon on the Plain: Love for Enemies

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 To the one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from the one who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic also. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and from the one who takes away your things, do not ask for them back.[a] 31 And just as you want people to do[b] to you, do the same[c] to them.
