Psalm 69:1-3

Save Me, O God

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Lilies. Of David.

69 Save me, O God!
    For (B)the waters have come up to my neck.[a]
I sink in deep (C)mire,
    where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
    and the flood (D)sweeps over me.
(E)I am weary with my crying out;
    (F)my throat is parched.
(G)My eyes grow dim
    with (H)waiting for my God.

Psalm 69:13-16

13 But as for me, my (A)prayer is to you, O Lord.
    At (B)an acceptable time, O God,
    in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
14 Deliver me
    from sinking in (C)the mire;
(D)let me be delivered from my enemies
    and from (E)the deep waters.
15 Let not the flood sweep over me,
    or the deep swallow me up,
    or (F)the pit close (G)its mouth over me.

16 Answer me, O Lord, for your (H)steadfast love is good;
    according to your abundant (I)mercy, (J)turn to me.

Psalm 69:30-36

30 I will (A)praise the name of God with a song;
    I will (B)magnify him with (C)thanksgiving.
31 This will (D)please the Lord more than an ox
    or a bull (E)with horns and hoofs.
32 When (F)the humble see it they will be glad;
    you who seek God, (G)let your hearts revive.
33 For the Lord hears the needy
    and (H)does not despise his own people who are prisoners.

34 Let (I)heaven and earth praise him,
    the seas and everything that moves in them.
35 For (J)God will save Zion
    and build up the cities of Judah,
and people shall dwell there and possess it;
36     (K)the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
    and those who love his name shall dwell in it.

Genesis 11:1-9

The Tower of Babel

11 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in (A)the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, (B)and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower (C)with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And (D)the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, (E)let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech.” So (F)the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called (G)Babel, because there the Lord confused[a] the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.

Matthew 7:13-20

13 (A)“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and (B)the way is hard that leads to life, and (C)those who find it are few.

A Tree and Its Fruit

15 (D)“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are (E)ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them (F)by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, (G)every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 (H)Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them (I)by their fruits.
