Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Save Me, O God
For the choir director. According to [a]Shoshannim. Of David.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Yahweh, (A)at an acceptable time;
O God, in the (B)abundance of Your lovingkindness,
Answer me with the truth of Your salvation.
14 Deliver me from the (C)mire and do not let me sink;
May I be (D)delivered from [a]my foes and from the [b](E)deep waters.
15 May the [c](F)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (G)pit shut its mouth on me.
30 I will (A)praise the name of God with song
And (B)magnify Him with (C)thanksgiving.
31 And this will (D)please Yahweh better than an ox
Or a young bull with horns and hoofs.
32 The (E)humble [a]see it and are glad;
You who seek God, (F)let your heart [b]revive.
33 For (G)Yahweh hears the needy
And (H)does not despise His who are prisoners.
17 Then Cain [a]knew his wife, and she conceived and [b]gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad [c]was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael [d]was the father of Methushael, and Methushael [e]was the father of Lamech. 19 And Lamech took for himself (A)two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 And Adah [f]gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 As for Zillah, she also [g]gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said to his wives,
“Adah and Zillah,
Hear my voice,
You wives of Lamech,
Give ear to my word,
(B)For I [h]have killed a man for [i]striking me;
And a boy for wounding me;
24 If Cain is avenged (C)sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
25 (D)Then Adam [j]knew his wife again; and she [k]gave birth to a son and named him [l]Seth, for she said, “God [m]has set for me another [n]seed in place of Abel, (E)for Cain killed him.” 26 And to Seth, to him also, (F)a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began (G)to call [o]upon the name of Yahweh.
The Generations of Adam
5 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him (H)in the likeness of God. 2 He created them (I)male and female, and He (J)blessed them and named them [p]Man in the day when they were created.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he [q]became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. 4 Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were 800 years, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 5 So all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.
9 What then? (A)Are we [a]better? Not at all; for we have already charged that both (B)Jews and (C)Greeks are (D)all under sin; 10 as it is written,
“(E)There is none righteous, not even one;
11 There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God;
12 All have turned aside, together they have become worthless;
There is none who does good,
There is not even one.”
13 “(F)Their throat is an open tomb,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
“(G)The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 “(H)Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;
15 “(I)Their feet are swift to shed blood,
16 Destruction and misery are in their paths,
17 And the path of peace they have not known.”
18 “(J)There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19 Now we know that whatever the (K)Law says, it speaks to (L)those who are in the Law, so that every mouth may be shut and (M)all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because (N)by the works [b]of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for [c](O)through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
The Righteousness of God through Faith
21 But now apart [d]from the Law (P)the righteousness of God has been manifested, being (Q)witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the (R)righteousness of God through (S)faith (T)in Jesus Christ for (U)all those [e]who believe; for (V)there is no distinction;
