Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God’s Relationship with His People
31 ‘At that time’ – this is the Lord’s declaration – ‘I will be the God of all the families of Israel,(A) and they will be my people.’
2 This is what the Lord says:
The people who survived the sword
found favour in the wilderness.(B)
When Israel went to find rest,(C)
3 the Lord appeared to him[a] from far away.
I have loved you with an everlasting love;(D)
therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you.(E)
4 Again I will build you so that you will be rebuilt,
Virgin Israel.(F)
You will take up your tambourines again(G)
and go out in joyful dancing.
5 You will plant vineyards again(H)
on the mountains of Samaria;
the planters will plant and will enjoy the fruit.(I)
6 For there will be a day when watchmen will call out
in the hill country of Ephraim,
‘Come, let’s go up to Zion,(J)
to the Lord our God! ’
The Dedication to Theophilus
1 Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled[a] among us,(A) 2 just as the original eye-witnesses(B) and servants of the word(C) handed them down to us. 3 So it also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honourable(D) Theophilus,(E) 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.[b](F)
