Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 130[a]
A song of ascents.[b]
130 From the deep water[c] I cry out to you, O Lord.
2 O Lord, listen to me.[d]
Pay attention to[e] my plea for mercy.
3 If you, O Lord, were to keep track of[f] sins,
O Lord, who could stand before you?[g]
4 But[h] you are willing to forgive,[i]
so that you might[j] be honored.[k]
5 I rely on[l] the Lord.
I rely on him with my whole being;[m]
I wait for his assuring word.[n]
6 I yearn for the Lord,[o]
more than watchmen do for the morning,
yes, more than watchmen do for the morning.[p]
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord,
for the Lord exhibits loyal love,[q]
and is more than willing to deliver.[r]
8 He will deliver[s] Israel
from all their sins.[t]
16 Now it was reported[a] in the household of Pharaoh, “Joseph’s brothers have arrived.” It pleased[b] Pharaoh and his servants. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and go[c] to the land of Canaan! 18 Get your father and your households and come to me! Then I will give you[d] the best land in Egypt and you will eat[e] the best[f] of the land.’ 19 You are also commanded to say,[g] ‘Do this: Take for yourselves wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives. Bring your father and come. 20 Don’t worry[h] about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours.’”
21 So the sons of Israel did as he said.[i] Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh had instructed,[j] and he gave them provisions for the journey. 22 He gave sets of clothes to each one of them,[k] but to Benjamin he gave 300 pieces of silver and five sets of clothes.[l] 23 To his father he sent the following:[m] ten donkeys loaded with the best products of Egypt and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, food, and provisions for his father’s journey. 24 Then he sent his brothers on their way and they left. He said to them, “As you travel don’t be overcome with fear.”[n]
25 So they went up from Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan.[o] 26 They told him, “Joseph is still alive and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt!” Jacob was stunned,[p] for he did not believe them. 27 But when they related to him everything Joseph had said to them,[q] and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, their father Jacob’s spirit revived. 28 Then Israel said, “Enough! My son Joseph is still alive! I will go and see him before I die.”
Cleansing a Leper
8 After he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. 2 And a leper[a] approached and bowed low before him,[b] saying, “Lord, if[c] you are willing, you can make me clean.” 3 He stretched out his hand and touched[d] him saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you do not speak to anyone,[e] but go, show yourself to the priest, and bring the offering[f] that Moses commanded,[g] as a testimony to them.”[h]
Healing the Centurion’s Servant
5 When he entered Capernaum,[i] a centurion[j] came to him asking for help:[k] 6 “Lord,[l] my servant[m] is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible anguish.” 7 Jesus[n] said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied,[o] “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof! Instead, just say the word and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me.[p] I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes,[q] and to another ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave[r] ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”[s] 10 When[t] Jesus heard this he was amazed and said to those who followed him, “I tell you the truth,[u] I have not found such faith in anyone in Israel! 11 I tell you, many will come from the east and west to share the banquet[v] with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob[w] in the kingdom of heaven, 12 but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness,[x] where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”[y] 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; just as you believed, it will be done for you.” And the servant[z] was healed at that hour.
