Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Praise to Yahweh for His Work on Behalf of Israel
105 Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to him; sing praises concerning him;
tell of all his wonderful works.
3 Boast about his holy name.
Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.
4 Make supplication to Yahweh and his might;
seek his face continually.
5 Remember his wonders that he has done,
his signs and the judgments of his mouth,
6 O offspring of Abraham his servant,
you descendants[a] of Jacob, his chosen ones.
16 Then he called for a famine upon the land;
he broke every supply[a] of bread.
17 He sent a man on ahead of them;
Joseph was sold as a slave.
18 They clamped[b] his feet in fetters.[c]
His neck[d] went into irons.[e]
19 Until the time his word came about,
the word of Yahweh tested[f] him.
20 The king sent and he freed him;
the ruler of the peoples sent and let him loose.
21 He made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to obligate[g] his officials as he saw fit[h]
and teach his elders wisdom.
45 so that they might observe his statutes,
and keep his laws.
Praise Yah.[a]
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers. And they hated him even more.[a] 6 And he said to them, “Listen now to this dream that I dreamed. 7 Now behold, we were binding sheaves in the midst of the field and, behold, my sheaf stood up and it remained standing. Then behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 Then his brothers said to him, “Will you really rule over us?” And they hated him even more[b] on account of his dream and because of his words. 9 Then he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brothers. And he said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream again, and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 And he told it to his father and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the ground to you?” 11 And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
The Signs of the Times
16 And when[a] the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test him,[b] they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 So he answered and[c] said to them, “When[d] evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather because the sky is red,’ 3 and early in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy weather, because the sky is red and[e] darkening.’ You know how to evaluate correctly the appearance of the sky, but you are not able to evaluate[f] the signs of the times. 4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah!” And he left them and[g] went away.
