Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
10 Listen, O princess.[a]
Observe and pay attention![b]
Forget your homeland[c] and your family.[d]
11 Then[e] the king will be attracted by[f] your beauty.
After all, he is your master. Submit[g] to him.[h]
12 Rich people from Tyre
will seek your favor by bringing a gift.[i]
13 The princess[j] looks absolutely magnificent,[k]
decked out in pearls and clothed in a brocade trimmed with gold.[l]
14 In embroidered robes she is escorted to the king.
Her attendants, the maidens of honor who follow her,
are led before you.[m]
15 They are bubbling with joy as they walk in procession
and enter the royal palace.[n]
16 Your[o] sons will carry on[p] the dynasty of your ancestors;[q]
you will make them princes throughout the land.
17 I will proclaim your greatness through the coming years,[r]
then the nations will praise you[s] forever.
18 He went to his father and said, “My father!” Isaac[a] replied, “Here I am. Which are you, my son?”[b] 19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau, your firstborn. I’ve done as you told me. Now sit up[c] and eat some of my wild game so that you can bless me.”[d] 20 But Isaac asked his son, “How in the world[e] did you find it so quickly,[f] my son?” “Because the Lord your God brought it to me,”[g] he replied.[h] 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come closer so I can touch you,[i] my son, and know for certain if you really are my son Esau.”[j] 22 So Jacob went over to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob’s, but the hands are Esau’s.” 23 He did not recognize him because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau’s hands. So Isaac blessed Jacob.[k] 24 Then he asked, “Are you really my son Esau?” “I am,” Jacob[l] replied. 25 Isaac[m] said, “Bring some of the wild game for me to eat, my son.[n] Then I will bless you.”[o] So Jacob[p] brought it to him, and he ate it. He also brought him wine, and Isaac[q] drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here and kiss me, my son.” 27 So Jacob[r] went over and kissed him. When Isaac caught the scent[s] of his clothing, he blessed him, saying,
“Yes,[t] my son smells
like the scent of an open field
which the Lord has blessed.
28 May God give you
the dew of the sky[u]
and the richness[v] of the earth,
and plenty of grain and new wine.
29 May peoples serve you
and nations bow down to you.
You will be[w] lord[x] over your brothers,
and the sons of your mother will bow down to you.[y]
May those who curse you be cursed,
and those who bless you be blessed.”
21 On that same occasion[a] Jesus[b] rejoiced[c] in the Holy Spirit and said, “I praise[d] you, Father, Lord[e] of heaven and earth, because[f] you have hidden these things from the wise[g] and intelligent, and revealed them to little children.[h] Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will.[i] 22 All things have been given to me by my Father.[j] No one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son decides[k] to reveal him.”
23 Then[l] Jesus[m] turned[n] to his[o] disciples and said privately, “Blessed[p] are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings longed to see[q] what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
