Psalm 76

Praise to God for His Rescue of Israel

For the music director, with stringed instruments.

A psalm of Asaph. A song.[a]

76 God is known in Judah.
His name is great in Israel.
His den[b] has been in Salem,
his lair[c] in Zion.
There he broke the flames of the bow,
the shield and sword and battle. Selah
Radiant[d] you are, majestic,
from[e] the mountains of prey.
The stouthearted are plundered;
they sleep their sleep,
and all the able men cannot use[f] their hands.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both rider[g] and horse slumber.
You, indeed, are to be feared,[h]
and who can stand before you
when you are angry? [i]
From heaven you proclaimed judgment.
The earth feared and was still
when God rose for justice,
to save all the afflicted of the land. Selah
10 For the anger of humankind will praise you.
You will put on the remnant of anger.[j]
11 Make vows and fulfill them to Yahweh, your God;
let all surrounding him
bring tribute to the one to be feared.[k]
12 He cuts off the spirit of leaders.
He is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

Isaiah 60:17-22

17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
    and instead of iron I will bring silver,
and instead of wood, bronze,
    and instead of stones, iron.
And I will appoint[a] peace as your overseer,
    and righteousness as your ruling body.[b]
18 Violence shall no longer be heard in your land;
    devastation or[c] destruction on your borders.
And you shall call your walls Salvation,
    and your gates, Praise.
19 The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
    and for bright light the moon shall not give you light,
but[d] Yahweh will be your everlasting light,
    and your God your glory.
20 Your sun shall no longer go down,
    and your moon shall not wane,[e]
for Yahweh himself will be your everlasting light,
    and your days of mourning shall come to an end.
21 And all your people shall be righteous;
    they shall take possession of the land forever,
the shoot of his[f] planting,
    the work of my hands, to show my glory.
22 The small one shall become a tribe,
    and the smallest one a mighty nation.

I am Yahweh; I will hasten it in its time.”

Ephesians 4:25-5:2

Old Behavior, New Behavior, and Motivation

25 Therefore, putting aside the lie, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor,[a] because we are members of one another. 26 Be angry and do not sin;[b] do not let the sun set on your anger, 27 nor give place to the devil. 28 The one who steals must steal no longer, but instead must labor, working with his own hands what is good, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. 29 No rotten word must proceed[c] from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear, 30 and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 All bitterness, and rage, and wrath, and clamor, and abusive speech, must be removed from you, together with all wickedness. 32 Become[d] kind toward one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ has forgiven you.

Imitators of God

Therefore become imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell.[e]
