Delight in God’s Word

א Aleph

119 How[a] happy are those whose way is blameless,(A)
who walk according to the Lord’s instruction!(B)
Happy are those who keep his decrees(C)
and seek him with all their heart.(D)
They do nothing wrong;(E)
they walk in his ways.
You have commanded that your precepts(F)
be diligently kept.
If only my ways were committed
to keeping your statutes!(G)
Then I would not be ashamed(H)
when I think about all your commands.
I will praise you with an upright heart(I)
when I learn your righteous judgements.
I will keep your statutes;
never abandon me.(J)

Genesis 26:1-5

The Promise Reaffirmed to Isaac

26 There was another famine in the land in addition to the one that had occurred in Abraham’s time.(A) And Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, at Gerar.(B) The Lord appeared to him and said, ‘Do not go down to Egypt. Live in the land that I tell you about; stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you.(C) For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring,(D) and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.(E) I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed[a] by your offspring,(F) because Abraham listened to me and kept my mandate, my commands, my statutes, and my instructions.’(G)

James 1:12-16

12 Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown(A) of life that God[a] has promised to those who love him.(B)

13 No one undergoing a trial should say, ‘I am being tempted by God,’ since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. 14 But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire.(C) 15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.(D)

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.(E)
