2 Samuel 11:26-12:10

26 Now when Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, (A)she mourned for her husband. 27 When the time of mourning was over, David sent servants and [a]had her brought to his house and (B)she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But (C)the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the Lord.

Nathan Rebukes David

12 Then the Lord sent (D)Nathan to David. And (E)he came to him and [b]said,

“There were two men in a city, the one wealthy and the other poor.
The wealthy man had a great many flocks and herds.
But the poor man had nothing at all except (F)one little ewe lamb
Which he bought and nurtured;
And it grew up together with him and his children.
It would eat [c]scraps from him and drink from his cup and lie [d]in his lap,
And was like a daughter to him.
Now a visitor came to the wealthy man,
And he could not bring himself to take any animal from his own flock or his own herd,
To prepare for the traveler who had come to him;
So he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Then David’s anger burned greatly against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this certainly [e](G)deserves to die! So he must make restitution for the lamb (H)four times over, since he did this thing and [f]had no compassion.”

Nathan then said to David, “(I)You yourself are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘(J)It is I who anointed you as king over Israel, and it is I who rescued you from the hand of Saul. I also gave you (K)your master’s house and put your master’s wives [g]into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you [h]many more things like these! Why (L)have you despised the word of the Lord, by doing evil in His sight? (M)You have struck and killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, you (N)have taken his wife as your wife, and you have slaughtered him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. 10 Now then, (O)the sword shall never leave your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

2 Samuel 12:13-15

13 Then David said to Nathan, “(A)I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has (B)allowed your sin to pass; you shall not die. 14 However, since by this deed you have (C)shown utter disrespect for the [a]Lord, the child himself who is born to you shall certainly die.” 15 Then Nathan went to his house.

Loss of a Child

Later the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s [b]widow bore to David, so that he was very sick.

Psalm 32

Blessedness of Forgiveness and of Trust in God.

A Psalm of David. A [a]Maskil.

32 (A)How blessed is he whose wrongdoing is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!
How blessed is a person whose guilt the Lord (B)does not take into account,
And in whose spirit there is (C)no deceit!

When (D)I kept silent about my sin, (E)my [b]body wasted away
Through my [c](F)groaning all day long.
For day and night (G)Your hand was heavy upon me;
My [d](H)vitality failed as with the dry heat of summer. Selah
I (I)acknowledged my sin to You,
And I (J)did not hide my guilt;
I said, “(K)I will confess my wrongdoings to the Lord”;
And You (L)forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah
Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [e](M)in a time when You may be found;
Certainly (N)in a flood of great waters, they will not reach him.
You are (O)my hiding place; You (P)keep me from trouble;
You surround me with [f](Q)songs of deliverance. Selah

I will (R)instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will advise you (S)with My eye upon you.
Do not be (T)like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.
10 The (U)sorrows of the wicked are many,
But (V)the one who trusts in the Lord, goodness will surround him.
11 Be (W)glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are (X)upright in heart.

Galatians 2:15-21

15 “We are (A)Jews by nature and not (B)sinners from the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless, knowing that (C)a person is not justified by works of [a]the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by (D)faith in Christ and not by works of [b]the Law; since (E)by works of [c]the Law no [d]flesh will be justified. 17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found (F)sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? [e](G)Far from it! 18 For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I (H)prove myself to be a wrongdoer. 19 For through [f]the Law I (I)died to [g]the Law, so that I might live for God. 20 I have been (J)crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but (K)Christ lives in me; and [h]the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in (L)the Son of God, who (M)loved me and (N)gave Himself up for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for (O)if righteousness comes through [i]the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

Luke 7:36-8:3

The Anointing in Galilee

36 Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to eat with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 (A)And there was a woman in the city who was a [a]sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, 38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and began kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this Man were (B)a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a [b]sinner!”

Parable of Two Debtors

40 And Jesus responded and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he [c]replied, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A moneylender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred [d](C)denarii, and the other, fifty. 42 When they (D)were unable to repay, he canceled the debts of both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I assume the one for whom he canceled the greater debt.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 44 And turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you (E)gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You [e](F)gave Me no kiss; but she has not stopped kissing My feet since the time I came in. 46 (G)You did not [f]anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. 47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but the one who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And He said to her, (H)Your sins have been forgiven.” 49 And then those who were reclining at the table with Him began saying [g]to themselves, “(I)Who is this Man who even forgives sins?” 50 And He said to the woman, (J)Your faith has saved you; (K)go in peace.”

Women Support Jesus

Soon afterward, [h]Jesus began going around from one city and village to another, (L)proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, and also (M)some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: (N)Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, (O)Herod’s (P)steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.
