Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem: praise thy God, O Zion.
13 For he hath made the bars of the gates [a]strong, and hath blessed thy children within thee.
14 He setteth peace in thy borders, and satisfieth thee with the [b]flour of wheat.
15 He sendeth forth his [c]commandment upon earth, and his word runneth very [d]swiftly.
16 He giveth snow like wool, and scattereth the hoary frost like ashes.
17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can abide the cold thereof?
18 He sendeth his word and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
19 He showeth his [e]word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
20 He hath not dealt so with every nation, neither have they [f]known his judgments. Praise ye the Lord.
5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6 And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, [a]when he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee: and thou hast [b]kept for him this great mercy, and hast given him a son, to sit on his throne, as appeareth this day.
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a young child, and know not how to [c]go out and in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people, which thou hast chosen, even a great people, which cannot be told nor numbered for multitude.
9 (A)Give therefore unto thy servant an [d]understanding heart, to judge thy people: that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy [e]mighty people?
10 And this pleased the Lord well, that Solomon had desired this thing.
11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine [f]enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart, so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall arise the like unto thee.
13 And I have also (B)given thee that, which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor, so that among the Kings there [g]shall be none like unto thee all thy days.
14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep mine ordinances and my commandments, (C)as thy father David did walk, I will prolong thy days.
12 [a]Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I (A)am that light of the world: he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have that light of life.
13 [b]The Pharisees therefore said unto him, [c]Thou bearest record of thyself: thy record is not true.
14 (B)Jesus answered, and said unto them, [d]Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I come, and whither I go: but ye cannot tell whence I came, and whither I go.
15 Ye judge after the flesh: I [e]judge no man.
16 And if I also judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I, and the Father, that sent me.
17 And it is also written in your Law, (C)that the testimony of two men is true.
18 [f]I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 [g]Then said they unto him, Where is that Father of thine? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor the Father of mine. If ye had known me, ye should have known that Father of mine also.
