Psalm 47[a]

The Ruler of All the Nations

For the leader. A psalm of the Korahites.

I

All you peoples, clap your hands;
    shout to God with joyful cries.(A)
For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared,
    the great king over all the earth,(B)
Who made people subject to us,
    nations under our feet,(C)
[b]Who chose our heritage for us,
    the glory of Jacob, whom he loves.(D)
Selah

II

[c]God has gone up with a shout;
    the Lord, amid trumpet blasts.(E)
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
    sing praise to our king, sing praise.

III

For God is king over all the earth;(F)
    sing hymns of praise.
God rules over the nations;
    God sits upon his holy throne.
10 The princes of the peoples assemble
    with the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God,
    highly exalted.(G)

Exodus 24:15-18

15 Moses went up the mountain. Then the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of the Lord settled upon Mount Sinai. The cloud covered it for six days, and on the seventh day he called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.(A) 17 To the Israelites the glory of the Lord was seen as a consuming fire on the top of the mountain.(B) 18 But Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up on the mountain. He was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.(C)

Revelation 1:9-18

I, John, your brother, who share with you the distress, the kingdom, and the endurance we have in Jesus, found myself on the island called Patmos[a] because I proclaimed God’s word and gave testimony to Jesus. 10 I was caught up in spirit on the Lord’s day[b] and heard behind me a voice as loud as a trumpet, 11 which said, “Write on a scroll[c] what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.” 12 [d]Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me, and when I turned, I saw seven gold lampstands 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man,[e] wearing an ankle-length robe, with a gold sash around his chest.(A) 14 The hair of his head was as white as white wool or as snow,[f] and his eyes were like a fiery flame. 15 His feet were like polished brass refined in a furnace,[g] and his voice was like the sound of rushing water. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars.[h] A sharp two-edged sword came out of his mouth, and his face shone like the sun at its brightest.(B)

17 When I caught sight of him, I fell down at his feet as though dead.[i] He touched me with his right hand and said, “Do not be afraid. I am the first and the last,(C) 18 the one who lives. Once I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. I hold the keys to death and the netherworld.[j]
