Version
Psalm 145:1-8

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise; by David.

145 I will extol you, my God, O King.
I will praise your name continually.[b]
Every day I will praise you.
I will praise your name continually.[c]
The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise.
No one can fathom his greatness.[d]
One generation will praise your deeds to another,
and tell about your mighty acts.[e]
I will focus on your honor and majestic splendor,
and your amazing deeds.[f]
They will proclaim[g] the power of your awesome acts.
I will declare your great deeds.
They will talk about the fame of your great kindness,[h]
and sing about your justice.[i]
The Lord is merciful and compassionate;
he is patient[j] and demonstrates great loyal love.[k]

Nahum 2:3-13

Prophetic Vision of the Fall of Nineveh

The shields of his warriors are dyed red;[a]
the mighty soldiers are dressed in scarlet garments.[b]
The chariots[c] are in[d] flashing metal fittings[e]
on the day of battle;[f]
the soldiers brandish[g] their spears.[h]
The chariots[i] race madly[j] through the streets,
they rush back and forth[k] in the broad plazas;
they look[l] like lightning bolts,[m]
they dash here and there[n] like flashes of lightning.[o]
The commander[p] orders[q] his officers;
they stumble[r] as they advance;[s]
they rush to the city wall,[t]
and they set up[u] the covered siege tower.[v]
The sluice gates[w] are opened;
the royal palace is deluged[x] and dissolves.[y]
Nineveh[z] is taken into exile[aa] and is led away;[ab]
her slave girls moan[ac] like doves[ad] while they beat[ae] their breasts.[af]
Nineveh was[ag] like a pool[ah] of water throughout her days,[ai]
but now[aj] her people[ak] are running away;[al]
she cries out:[am] “Stop! Stop!”—
but no one turns back.[an]
Her conquerors cry out:[ao]
“Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold!”
There is no end to the treasure;
riches of every kind of precious thing.
10 Destruction, devastation, and desolation![ap]
Hearts faint, knees tremble;
every stomach churns,[aq] all their faces have turned[ar] pale![as]

Taunt against the Once-Mighty Lion

11 Where now is the den of the lions[at]
and the feeding place[au] of the young lions,
where the lion, lioness,[av] and lion cub once prowled[aw]
and no one disturbed them?[ax]
12 The lion tore apart as much prey as his cubs needed
and strangled prey for his lionesses;
he filled his lairs with prey
and his dens with torn flesh.

Battle Cry of the Divine Warrior

13 “I am against you!” declares[ay] the Lord of Heaven’s Armies:[az]
“I will burn your chariots[ba] with fire;[bb]
the sword will devour your young lions.[bc]
You will no longer prey upon the land;[bd]
the voices of your messengers[be] will no longer be heard.”

2 Corinthians 13:5-10

Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless, indeed, you fail the test![a] And I hope that you will realize that we have not failed the test![b] Now we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong, not so that we may appear to have passed the test,[c] but so that you may do what is right[d] even if we may appear to have failed the test.[e] For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the sake of the truth. For we rejoice whenever we are weak, but you are strong. And we pray for this: that you may become fully qualified.[f] 10 Because of this I am writing these things while absent, so that when I arrive[g] I may not have to deal harshly with you[h] by using my authority—the Lord gave it to me for building up, not for tearing down!
