Psalm 26:1-8

Psalm 26[a]

Prayer for the Righteous

Of David.

Lord, come to my defense,
for I have lived a blameless life.
I have placed my trust in the Lord,
and never have I wavered in that regard.
Test me, O Lord, and try me;
probe my heart and my mind.
For your kindness[b] is before my eyes,
and I am constantly guided by your truth.
I do not sit in the company of deceivers,
nor do I associate with hypocrites.
I abhor the assembly of the wicked,
and I refuse to associate with evildoers.
I wash my hands in innocence[c]
and join the procession around your altar, O Lord,
giving voice to your praises
and proclaiming all your wondrous deeds.[d]
I love the house where you dwell, O Lord,
the place where your glory resides.[e]

Jeremiah 15:10-14

Jeremiah’s Call Renewed[a]

10 “O my mother, how I wish
that you had never given birth to me,
a man of strife and contention for the entire land.
I have never borrowed from anyone,
nor have I lent to anyone,
    yet everyone curses me.
11 Have I not truly done my best
    to serve you, O Lord?
Have I not interceded with you
in times of disaster and times of distress?
12 “Can iron and bronze
    break iron from the north?
13 Your wealth and your treasures
I will hand over as plunder, without repayment,
because of all your sins
    throughout your territory.
14 I will force you to serve your enemies
in a land you do not know,
for my anger will kindle a fire
    that will blaze against you.

Matthew 8:14-17

14 Jesus Heals Peter’s Mother-in-Law. Jesus then entered the house of Peter and found Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.

16 Jesus Drives Out the Evil Spirits.[a] That evening they brought to him many who were possessed by demons. He cast out the spirits with a command and cured all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill the words of the prophet Isaiah:

“He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
