Psalm 31:1-5

Psalm 31(A)

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

In You, O Lord, do I seek refuge;
    may I never be ashamed;
    deliver me in Your righteousness.
Incline Your ear to me;
    deliver me speedily;
be my strong rock,
    a strong fortress to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress;
    for Your name’s sake lead me and guide me.
Lead me out of the net that they have hidden for me,
    for You are my strength.
Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
    You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth.

Psalm 31:15-16

15 My times are in Your hand;
    deliver me from the hand of my enemies
    and my pursuers.
16 Make Your face to shine on Your servant;
    save me by Your lovingkindness.

Genesis 12:1-3

The Call of Abram

12 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, your family, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.

I will make of you a great nation;
    I will bless you
and make your name great,
    so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless them who bless you
    and curse him who curses you,[a]
and in you all families of the earth
    will be blessed.”

Acts 6:8-15

The Arrest of Stephen

Now Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Then some men rose up from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and of Asia), disputing with Stephen. 10 But they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

11 Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and came upon him and seized him and led him to the Sanhedrin, 13 and set up false witnesses who said, “This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us.”

15 All who sat in the Sanhedrin, gazing at him, saw his face as the face of an angel.
