Version
Psalm 146

Psalm 146[a]

146 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord, O my soul.
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.
Do not trust in princes,
or in human beings, who cannot deliver.[b]
Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground.
On that day their plans die.[c]
How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
the one who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them,
who remains forever faithful,[d]
vindicates the oppressed,[e]
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord releases the imprisoned.
The Lord gives sight to the blind.
The Lord lifts up all who are bent over.[f]
The Lord loves the godly.
The Lord protects the resident foreigner.
He lifts up the fatherless and the widow,[g]
but he opposes the wicked.[h]
10 The Lord rules forever,
your God, O Zion, throughout the generations to come.[i]
Praise the Lord!

Proverbs 22:2-16

The rich and the poor are met together;[a]
the Lord is the Creator of them both.[b]
A shrewd person[c] saw[d] danger[e] and hid[f] himself,
but the naive passed on by and paid for it.[g]
The reward[h] for humility[i] and fearing the Lord[j]
is riches and honor and life.
Thorns and snares[k] are in the path of the perverse,
but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.
Train[l] a child[m] in the way that he should go,[n]
and when he is old he will not turn from it.[o]
The rich rule over[p] the poor,
and the borrower is servant[q] to the lender.
The one who sows[r] iniquity will reap trouble,
and the rod of his fury[s] will end.
A generous person[t] will be blessed,[u]
for he has given some of his food[v] to the poor.
10 Drive out the scorner[w] and contention will leave;
strife and insults will cease.[x]
11 The one who loves a pure heart[y]
and whose speech is gracious[z]—the king will be his friend.[aa]
12 The eyes of the Lord[ab] watched[ac] over a cause,[ad]
and subverted the words of the treacherous person.[ae]
13 The sluggard has said,[af] “There is a lion[ag] outside!
I will be killed in the middle of the streets!”[ah]
14 The mouth[ai] of an adulteress is like[aj] a deep pit;[ak]
the one against whom the Lord is angry[al] will fall into it.[am]
15 Folly is bound up[an] in the heart of a child,[ao]
but the rod of discipline[ap] will drive it far from him.
16 The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain
and the one who gives to the rich[aq]—both end up only in poverty.

2 Corinthians 8:8-15

I am not saying this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love by comparison with the eagerness of others.[a] For you know the grace[b] of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you by his poverty could become rich. 10 So here is my opinion on this matter: It is to your advantage, since you[c] made a good start last year both in your giving and your desire to give, 11 to finish what you started,[d] so that just as you wanted to do it eagerly,[e] you can also complete it according to your means.[f] 12 For if the eagerness is present, the gift itself[g] is acceptable according to whatever one has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For I do not say this so there would be relief for others and suffering for you, but as a matter of equality. 14 At the present time, your abundance will meet their need,[h] so that one day their abundance may also meet your need, and thus there may be equality, 15 as it is written: “The one who gathered[i] much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.”[j]
