Psalm 25[a]

Prayer for Guidance and Help

[b]Of David.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
in you, O my God, I trust.
Do not let me be put to shame,
or permit my enemies to gloat over me.
No one who places his hope in you
will ever be put to shame,
but shame will be the lot of all
    who break faith without justification.
[c]Make your ways known to me, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and instruct me,
for you are God, my Savior,
and in you I hope all the day long.
Be mindful, O Lord, that mercy and kindness
have been yours from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth
    or my many transgressions,
but remember me in your kindness,
for the sake of your goodness, O Lord.
[d]Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore, he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them the path to follow.
10 The ways of the Lord[e] are kindness and truth
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

Leviticus 19:1-4

Chapter 19

Behavior Pleasing to the Lord. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to all the assembly of the children of Israel and say: Be holy, for I am holy. I am the Lord, your God. Every man shall honor his father and his mother, and keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord, your God.

“Do not worship idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am the Lord, your God.

Leviticus 19:32-37

32 “You will stand up in the presence of those with gray hair, and honor the presence of those who are old, and you will fear your God. I am the Lord.

33 “If an alien dwells in your land, you will not harass him. 34 You will treat the alien who dwells among you just as you would the person who was born among you. You shall love him as yourself, for you were once aliens in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord, your God.

35 “You shall not cheat in measuring lengths or weights or volumes. 36 You will use honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin.[a] I am the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 Therefore, you will observe all of my statutes and my decrees, and follow them. I am the Lord.”

John 3:16-21

16 “For God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him
may not perish
but may attain eternal life.
17 “For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world
but in order that the world might be saved through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe in him
already stands condemned,
because he has not believed in the name
of the only-begotten Son of God.
19 “And the judgment is this:
the light has come into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light
because their deeds were evil.
20 Everyone who does evil hates the light
and avoids coming near the light
so that his misdeeds may not be exposed.
21 However, whoever lives by the truth
comes to the light
so that it may be clearly seen
that his deeds have been done
in God.”
