Psalm 64

Psalm 64

For the choir director; a psalm by David.

Hear my voice, O Elohim, when I complain.
Protect my life from a terrifying enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of criminals,
    from the mob of troublemakers.
They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim bitter words like arrows
to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places.
They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
They encourage one another in their evil plans.
They talk about setting traps and say,
            “Who can see them?”
They search for the perfect crime and say,
“We have perfected a foolproof scheme!”
Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!

But Elohim will shoot them with an arrow.
Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
They will trip over their own tongues.
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
Everyone will be afraid and conclude,
“This is an act of Elohim!”
They will learn from what he has done.

10 Righteous people will find joy in Yahweh and take refuge in him.
Everyone whose motives are decent will be able to brag.

Ezekiel 32:1-10

A Funeral Song about Pharaoh

32 On the first day of the twelfth month in the twelfth year, Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, sing a funeral song for Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Tell him,

‘You think you are like a lion among the nations.
Instead, you are like a crocodile in the water.
You splash around in the water.
You stir up the water with your feet.
        You make the streams muddy.

“‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: When many nations gather together, I will spread my net over you, and they will haul you up in a net. I will throw you on the ground and toss you into an open field. I will make birds perch on you, and wild animals from all over the earth will feed on you. I will scatter your flesh on the hills and fill the valleys with your rotting corpse. I will drench the earth with your flowing blood all the way to the mountains. Ravines will be filled with your dead body.

“‘When I put out your light, I will cover the sky and darken the stars. I will cover the sun with clouds, and the moon won’t shine anymore. I will darken all the lights shining in the sky above you. I will bring darkness over your land, declares Adonay Yahweh.

“‘I will make many people troubled when I spread the news of your destruction among the nations to countries that you haven’t heard of. 10 Many people will be shocked by what I will do to you. Their kings will shudder when I swing my sword in their faces. When you die, all of them will tremble in fear for their own lives.

Luke 9:37-43

Jesus Cures a Demon-Possessed Boy(A)

37 The next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met Yeshua. 38 A man in the crowd shouted, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son. He’s my only child. 39 Whenever a spirit takes control of him, he shrieks, goes into convulsions, and foams at the mouth. After a struggle, the spirit goes away, leaving the child worn out. 40 I begged your disciples to force the spirit out of him, but they couldn’t do it.”

41 Yeshua answered, “You unbelieving and corrupt generation! How long must I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here!”

42 While he was coming to Yeshua, the demon knocked the boy to the ground and threw him into convulsions.

Yeshua ordered the evil spirit to leave. He cured the boy and gave him back to his father. 43 Everyone was amazed to see God’s wonderful power.

The Son of Man Again Foretells His Betrayal(B)

Everyone was amazed at all the things that Yeshua was doing. So he said to his disciples,
