Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Dorcas Raised
36 Now in Joppa there was a certain female disciple named[a] Tabitha (which translated means “Dorcas”).[b] She was full of good deeds and charitable giving which she was constantly doing.[c] 37 Now it happened that in those days after[d] becoming sick, she died. And after[e] washing her,[f] they placed her in an upstairs room. 38 And because[g] Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, when they[h] heard that Peter was in Lydda,[i] sent two men to him, urging, “Do not delay to come to us!” 39 So Peter got up and[j] accompanied them. When he[k] arrived, they brought him[l] up to the upstairs room, and all the widows came to him, weeping and showing him[m] tunics and other clothing that Dorcas used to make while she[n] was with them. 40 But Peter sent them all outside, and, falling to his[o] knees, he prayed. And turning toward the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” And she opened her eyes, and when she[p] saw Peter, she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and[q] raised her up. And he called the saints and the widows and[r] presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And it happened that he stayed many days in Joppa with a certain Simon, a tanner.[s]
Yahweh the Shepherd
A psalm of David.[a]
23 Yahweh is my shepherd;
I will not lack for anything.
2 In grassy pastures he makes me lie down;
by quiet waters he leads me.
3 He restores my life.[b]
He leads me in correct paths[c]
for the sake of his name.
4 Even when I walk in a dark valley, I fear no evil
because you are with me.
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare before me a table
in the presence of my oppressors.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup is overflowing.
6 Surely goodness and loyal love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will stay[d] in the house[e] of Yahweh
for a very long time.[f]
The Great Crowd before the Throne
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great crowd that no one was able to number, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes and with palm branches in their hands. 10 And they were crying out with a loud voice, saying,
“Salvation to our God
who is seated on the throne,
and to the Lamb!”
11 And all the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying,
“Amen! Praise and glory,
and wisdom and thanksgiving,
and honor and power and strength
be to our God forever and ever[a]. Amen!”
13 And one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are dressed in the white robes—who are they, and from where have they come?” 14 And I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me,
“These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation,
and have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 Because of this, they are before the throne of God,
and they serve[b] him day and night in his temple,
and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter[c] them.
16 They will not be hungry any longer or be thirsty any longer,
nor will the sun ever beat down on them, nor any heat,[d]
17 because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them
and will lead them to springs of living waters,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”[e]
Jesus at the Feast of the Dedication
22 Then the feast of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple in the Portico of Solomon. 24 So the Jews surrounded him and began to say[a] to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense?[b] If you are the Christ, tell us plainly!” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe! The deeds that I do in the name of my Father, these testify about me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep! 27 My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish forever,[c] and no one will seize them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them[d] to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them[e] from the Father’s hand. 30 The Father and I are one.”
