Psalm 91[a]

Security Under God’s Protection

I

You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High,[b]
    who abide in the shade of the Almighty,
Say to the Lord, “My refuge and fortress,
    my God in whom I trust.”(A)

Psalm 91:9-16

Because you have the Lord for your refuge
    and have made the Most High your stronghold,
10 No evil shall befall you,
    no affliction come near your tent.(A)
11 [a]For he commands his angels with regard to you,(B)
    to guard you wherever you go.(C)
12 With their hands they shall support you,
    lest you strike your foot against a stone.(D)
13 You can tread upon the asp and the viper,
    trample the lion and the dragon.(E)

II

14 Because he clings to me I will deliver him;
    because he knows my name I will set him on high.(F)
15 He will call upon me and I will answer;(G)
    I will be with him in distress;(H)
    I will deliver him and give him honor.
16 With length of days I will satisfy him,
    and fill him with my saving power.(I)

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Chapter 3

No One Can Determine the Right Time to Act

[a]There is an appointed time for everything,
    and a time for every affair under the heavens.
A time to give birth, and a time to die;
    a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
    a time to tear down, and a time to build.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
    a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them;
    a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
    a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
    a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
A time to love, and a time to hate;
    a time of war, and a time of peace.

John 12:27-36

27 “I am troubled[a] now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.(A) 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.”(B) 29 The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”(C) 30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but for yours.(D) 31 Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world[b] will be driven out.(E) 32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”(F) 33 He said this indicating the kind of death he would die. 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever.[c] Then how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”(G) 35 Jesus said to them, “The light will be among you only a little while. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going.(H) 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of the light.”(I)

Unbelief and Belief Among the Jews. After he had said this, Jesus left and hid from them.
