Psalm 26

The Prayer of an Innocent Man

Of David.

26 Lord, defend me.
I have lived an innocent life.
I trusted the Lord and never doubted.
Lord, try me and test me.
Look closely into my heart and mind.
I see your love.
    I live by your truth.
I do not spend time with liars.
I do not make friends with people who hide their sin.
I hate the company of evil people.
I won’t sit with the wicked.
I wash my hands to show I am innocent.
I come to your altar, Lord.
I raise my voice in praise.
I tell of all the miracles you have done.
Lord, I love the Temple where you live.
It is where your greatness is.
Do not kill me with those sinners.
Do not take my life with those murderers.
10 Evil is in their hands.
    They do wrong for money.
11 But I have lived an innocent life.
So save me and be kind to me.
12 I stand in a safe place.
Lord, I praise you in the great meeting.

Obadiah 10-16

10 You did violence against your relatives, the people of Israel.
So you will be covered with shame.
    You will be destroyed forever.
11 You stood aside without helping
while strangers carried Israel’s treasures away.
Foreigners entered Israel’s city gate.
They threw lots to decide what part of Jerusalem they would take.
At that time you were like one of those foreigners.

Commands That Edom Broke

12 “Do not laugh at your brothers’ trouble.
Do not be happy when people destroy Judah.
Do not brag about the cruel things done to them.
13 Do not enter the city gate of my people
    in their time of trouble.
Do not laugh at their problems
    in their time of trouble.
Do not take their treasures
    in their time of trouble.
14 Do not stand at the crossroads
to destroy those who are trying to escape.
Do not capture those who escape alive
    in a time of trouble.

The Nations Will Be Judged

15 “The Lord’s day of judging is coming soon
    to all the nations.
You did evil things to other people.
Those same things will happen to you.
They will come back upon your own head.
16 Because you joined the nations in robbing my Temple,
    you drank my anger.
So all the nations will drink my anger.
They will be punished so much that they will disappear.

Revelation 8:1-5

The Seventh Seal

The Lamb opened the seventh seal. Then there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God. They were given seven trumpets.

Another angel came and stood at the altar. This angel had a golden pan for incense. The angel was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all God’s holy people. The angel put this offering on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke from the incense went up from the angel’s hand to God. It went up with the prayers of God’s people. Then the angel filled the incense pan with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth. There were flashes of lightning, thunder and loud noises, and an earthquake.
