Psalm 95

95 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord.
Let us give a loud shout to the Rock who saves us.
Let us come to him and give him thanks.
Let us praise him with music and song.

The Lord is the great God.
    He is the greatest King.
He rules over all the gods.
He owns the deepest parts of the earth.
The mountain peaks belong to him.
The ocean is his, because he made it.
He formed the dry land with his hands.

Come, let us bow down and worship him.
Let us fall on our knees in front of the Lord our Maker.
He is our God.
We are the sheep belonging to his flock.
We are the people he takes good care of.

If only you would listen to his voice today.
He says, “Don’t be stubborn as you were at Meribah.
Don’t be stubborn as you were that day at Massah in the desert.
There your people of long ago really tested me.
They did it even though they had seen what I had done for them.
10 For 40 years I was angry with them.
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray.
They do not know how I want them to live.’
11 So when I was angry, I made a promise.
I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ”

1 Chronicles 11:1-9

David Becomes King Over Israel

11 The whole community of Israel came together to see David at Hebron. They said, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, Saul was our king. But you led the men of Israel in battle. The Lord your God said to you, ‘You will be the shepherd over my people Israel. You will become their ruler.’ ”

All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There he made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel. It happened just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

David Captures Jerusalem

David and all the men of Israel marched to Jerusalem. Jerusalem was also called Jebus. The Jebusites who lived there said to David, “You won’t get in here.” But David captured the fort of Zion. It became known as the City of David.

David had said, “Anyone who leads the attack against the Jebusites will become the commander of Israel’s army.” Joab went up first. So he became the commander of the army. He was the son of Zeruiah.

David moved into the fort. So it was called the City of David. He built up the city around the fort. He filled in the low places. He built a wall around it. During that time, Joab built up the rest of the city. David became more and more powerful. That’s because the Lord who rules over all was with him.

Revelation 7:13-17

13 Then one of the elders spoke to me. “Who are these people dressed in white robes?” he asked. “Where did they come from?”

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”

He said, “They are the ones who have come out of the time of terrible suffering. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 So

“they are in front of the throne of God.
They serve him day and night in his temple.
The one who sits on the throne
will be with them to keep them safe.
16 ‘Never again will they be hungry.
Never again will they be thirsty.
The sun will not beat down on them.’ (Isaiah 49:10)
The heat of the desert will not harm them.
17 The Lamb, who is at the center of the area around the throne,
    will be their shepherd.
‘He will lead them to springs of living water.’ (Isaiah 49:10)
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ ” (Isaiah 25:8)
