⁵ My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my ^[a]expectation is from Him.
⁶ He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be ^[b]moved.
^7 (A)In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.

⁸ Trust in Him at all times, you people;
^(B)Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah

^9 (C)Surely men of low degree are ^[c]a vapor,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed on the scales,
They are altogether lighter than vapor.
¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
^(D)If riches increase,
Do not set your heart on them.

¹¹ God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.
¹² Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy;
For ^(E)You ^[d]render to each one according to his work.

^14 (A)Cursed be the day in which I was born!
Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me!
¹⁵ Let the man be cursed
Who brought news to my father, saying,
“A male child has been born to you!”
Making him very glad.
¹⁶ And let that man be like the cities
Which the Lord ^(B)overthrew, and did not relent;
Let him ^(C)hear the cry in the morning
And the shouting at noon,
^17 (D)Because he did not kill me from the womb,
That my mother might have been my grave,
And her womb always enlarged with me.
^18 (E)Why did I come forth from the womb to ^(F)see ^[a]labor and sorrow,
That my days should be consumed with shame?
