Psalm 9:1-14

Psalms 9–10[a]

Psalm 9[b]

Thanksgiving for the Triumph of Justice

For the director.[c] According to Muth Labben. A psalm of David.

I will offer praise to you, O Lord,
    with my whole heart;
    I will recount all your wondrous deeds.[d]
I will rejoice and exult in you;
    I will sing praise to your name,[e] O Most High.
For my enemies have turned back;
    in your presence they stumble and perish.
But you have upheld my just cause,
    you who are seated on your throne as a righteous judge.
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked,
    erasing their name forever and ever.
The enemies have suffered endless ruin;
    their cities have been utterly destroyed,
    and not even their memory remains.
The Lord is enthroned forever;
    he has established his throne for judgment.
He governs the world in righteousness
    and judges the peoples with equity.
10 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
    a refuge in times of distress.
11 Those who revere your name place their trust in you,
    for you never abandon those who seek you, O Lord.
12 Sing praise to the Lord enthroned in Zion;[f]
    proclaim to the nations his wondrous deeds.
13 For the avenger of blood remembers them;
    he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
14 Have mercy on me, O Lord;
    behold how my enemies afflict me,
    you who save me from the gates of death.

Zechariah 2:1-5

Chapter 2

Vision of the Four Horns and the Workers.[a] I looked up and beheld four horns. I inquired of the angel who was conversing with me what these were. He answered me, “These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

Then the Lord showed me four blacksmiths. And I said, “What are these coming to do?” He replied, “Those horns scattered Judah so completely that no one dared to raise his head. However, those blacksmiths have come to terrify them and to strike down the horns of the nations that raised their horns against the land of Judah in order to scatter its people.”

The New Jerusalem.[b] Following this, I raised my eyes and observed a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Zechariah 5:1-4

The People of the Holy City[a]

Chapter 5

Vision of the Scroll that Flies.[b] Again I looked up, and I beheld a flying scroll. The angel said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll. It is twenty cubits in length and ten cubits in width.”

Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes forth over the entire earth. According to the writing on one side, every thief will be swept away, and according to the writing on the other side, everyone who commits perjury in my name will be banished. I have sent it forth, says the Lord of hosts, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who commits perjury in my name. It will lodge inside such a house and consume it, both timber and stones.”

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

Building Up the Community[a]

12 Show Respect for Leaders.[b]Brethren, we beg you to respect those whose duty it is to labor among you as your leaders in the Lord and to admonish you. 13 Show the highest esteem for them in love because of their work. Be at peace with one another.

14 [c]We also exhort you, brethren, to admonish those who are idle, encourage those who are afraid, support those who are weak, and be patient with everybody. 15 Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Rather, always aim to achieve what is best for each other and for everyone.

16 [d]Rejoice always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
