Psalm 25:1-9

Psalm 25[a]

By David.

25 O Lord, I come before you in prayer.[b]
My God, I trust in you.
Please do not let me be humiliated;
do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me.
Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated.
Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted[c] and humiliated.
Make me understand your ways, O Lord.
Teach me your paths.[d]
Guide me into your truth[e] and teach me.
For you are the God who delivers me;
on you I rely all day long.
Remember[f] your compassionate and faithful deeds, O Lord,
for you have always acted in this manner.[g]
Do not hold against me[h] the sins of my youth[i] or my rebellious acts.
Because you are faithful to me, extend to me your favor, O Lord.[j]
The Lord is both kind and fair;[k]
that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live.[l]
May he show[m] the humble what is right.[n]
May he teach[o] the humble his way.

Ezekiel 18:5-18

“Suppose a man is righteous. He practices what is just and right, does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains[a] or pray to the idols[b] of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor’s wife, does not approach a woman for marital relations[c] during her period, does not oppress anyone, but gives the debtor back whatever was given in pledge,[d] does not commit robbery,[e] but gives his bread to the hungry and clothes the naked, does not engage in usury or charge interest,[f] but refrains[g] from wrongdoing, promotes true justice[h] between men, and follows my statutes and observes my regulations by carrying them out.[i] That man[j] is righteous; he will certainly live,[k] declares the Sovereign Lord.

10 “Suppose such a man has[l] a violent son who sheds blood and does any of these things[m] mentioned previously 11 (though the father did not do any of them).[n] He eats pagan sacrifices on the mountains,[o] defiles his neighbor’s wife, 12 oppresses the poor and the needy,[p] commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to[q] idols, performs abominable acts, 13 engages in usury, and charges interest. Will he live? He will not! Because he has done all these abominable deeds he will certainly die.[r] He will bear the responsibility for his own death.[s]

14 “But suppose he in turn has a son who notices all the sins his father commits, considers them, and does not follow his father’s example.[t] 15 He does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains, does not pray to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor’s wife, 16 does not oppress anyone or keep what has been given in pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his food to the hungry and clothes the naked, 17 refrains from wrongdoing,[u] does not engage in usury or charge interest, carries out my regulations, and follows my statutes. He will not die for his father’s iniquity;[v] he will surely live. 18 As for his father, because he practices extortion, robs his brother, and does what is not good among his people, he will die for his iniquity.

Acts 13:32-41

32 And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors,[a] 33 that this promise[b] God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raising[c] Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son;[d] today I have fathered you.’[e] 34 But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesus[f] from the dead, never[g] again to be[h] in a state of decay, God[i] has spoken in this way: ‘I will give you[j] the holy and trustworthy promises[k] made to David.’[l] 35 Therefore he also says in another psalm,[m]You will not permit your Holy One[n] to experience[o] decay.’[p] 36 For David, after he had served[q] God’s purpose in his own generation, died,[r] was buried with his ancestors,[s] and experienced[t] decay, 37 but the one[u] whom God raised up did not experience[v] decay. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this one[w] forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by this one[x] everyone who believes is justified[y] from everything from which the law of Moses could not justify[z] you.[aa] 40 Watch out,[ab] then, that what is spoken about by[ac] the prophets does not happen to you:

41 Look, you scoffers; be amazed and perish![ad]
For I am doing a work in your days,
a work you would never believe, even if someone tells you.’”[ae]
