Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
20 The Lord dealt with me (A)according to my righteousness;
according to (B)the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.
21 For I have (C)kept the ways of the Lord,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For (D)all his rules[a] were before me,
and his statutes I did not put away from me.
23 I was (E)blameless before him,
and I kept myself from my guilt.
24 So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25 With (F)the merciful you show yourself merciful;
with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;
26 with the purified you show yourself pure;
and with (G)the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.
27 For you save (H)a humble people,
but (I)the haughty eyes you bring down.
28 For it is you who light my (J)lamp;
the Lord my God lightens my darkness.
29 For by you I can run against a troop,
and by my God I can (K)leap over (L)a wall.
30 This God—his way is (M)perfect;[b]
the word of the Lord (N)proves true;
he is (O)a shield for all those who (P)take refuge in him.
28 “For they are a nation void of counsel,
and there is (A)no understanding in them.
29 (B)If they were wise, they would understand this;
they would (C)discern their latter end!
30 How could (D)one have chased a thousand,
and two have put ten thousand to flight,
unless their Rock (E)had sold them,
and the Lord had given them up?
31 For (F)their rock is not as our Rock;
(G)our enemies are by themselves.
32 For their vine (H)comes from the vine of Sodom
and from the fields of Gomorrah;
their grapes are grapes of (I)poison;
their clusters are bitter;
33 their wine is the poison of (J)serpents
and the cruel venom of asps.
34 “‘Is not this laid up in store with me,
(K)sealed up in my treasuries?
35 (L)Vengeance is mine, and recompense,[a]
(M)for the time when their foot shall slip;
for (N)the day of their calamity is at hand,
and their doom comes swiftly.’
36 For (O)the Lord will vindicate[b] his people
(P)and have compassion on his servants,
when he sees that their power is gone
and there is none remaining, (Q)bond or free.
37 Then he will say, (R)‘Where are their gods,
(S)the rock in which they took refuge,
38 who ate the fat of their sacrifices
and drank the wine of their drink offering?
Let them rise up and help you;
let them be your protection!
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and (A)wisdom and knowledge of God! (B)How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
34 “For (C)who has known the mind of the Lord,
or (D)who has been his counselor?”
35 “Or (E)who has given a gift to him
that he might be repaid?”
36 For (F)from him and through him and to him are all things. (G)To him be glory forever. Amen.
