Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 92[a]
A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is fitting[b] to thank the Lord,
and to sing praises to your name, O Most High.[c]
2 It is fitting[d] to proclaim your loyal love in the morning,
and your faithfulness during the night,
3 to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre,
to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp.
4 For you, O Lord, have made me happy by your work.
I will sing for joy because of what you have done.[e]
5 How great are your works, O Lord!
Your plans are very intricate![f]
6 The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this;
the fool does not understand this.[g]
7 When the wicked sprout up like grass,
and all the evildoers glisten,[h]
it is so that they may be annihilated.[i]
8 But you, O Lord, reign[j] forever.
9 Indeed,[k] look at your enemies, O Lord.
Indeed,[l] look at how your enemies perish.
All the evildoers are scattered.
10 You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox.[m]
I am covered[n] with fresh oil.
11 I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me;[o]
I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me.[p]
12 The godly[q] grow like a palm tree;
they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon.[r]
13 Planted in the Lord’s house,
they grow in the courts of our God.
14 They bear fruit even when they are old;
they are filled with vitality and have many leaves.[s]
15 So they proclaim that the Lord, my Protector,
is just and never unfair.[t]
23 The desire of the righteous is only good,
but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.[a]
24 One person is generous[b] and yet grows more wealthy,[c]
but another withholds more than he should[d] and comes to poverty.[e]
25 A generous person[f] will be enriched,[g]
and the one who provides water[h] for others[i] will himself be satisfied.[j]
26 People will curse[k] the one who withholds grain,[l]
but they will praise[m] the one who sells it.[n]
27 The one who diligently seeks[o] good seeks favor,
but the one who searches for[p] evil—it will come to him.[q]
28 The one who trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous[r] will flourish like a green leaf.[s]
29 The one who troubles[t] his family[u] will inherit nothing,[v]
and the fool[w] will be a servant to the wise person.[x]
30 The fruit of the righteous is like[y] a tree producing life,[z]
and the one who wins souls[aa] is wise.[ab]
10 Then[a] the disciples came to him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” 11 He replied,[b] “You have been given[c] the opportunity to know[d] the secrets[e] of the kingdom of heaven, but they have not. 12 For whoever has will be given more, and will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.[f] 13 For this reason I speak to them in parables: Although they see they do not see, and although they hear they do not hear nor do they understand. 14 And concerning them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:
‘You will listen carefully[g] yet will never understand,
you will look closely[h] yet will never comprehend.
15 For the heart of this people has become dull;
they are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes,
so that they would not see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[i]
16 “But your eyes are blessed[j] because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For I tell you the truth,[k] many prophets and righteous people longed to see[l] what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
