Psalm 89:1-4

Psalm 89[a]

Prayer for the Fulfillment of God’s Promise

A maskil[b] of Ethan the Ezrahite.

[c]I will sing forever of the Lord’s kindness;
    with my lips I will proclaim your faithfulness[d]
    throughout the generations.
You said, “My kindness lasts forever;
    my faithfulness is as firmly established as the heavens.
“I have made a covenant with my chosen one;
    I have sworn to my servant David:

Psalm 89:15-18

15 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    kindness and faithfulness go before your face.[a]
16 Blessed[b] are the people who know how to acclaim you, O Lord,
    who walk in the light of your countenance.
17 In your name they rejoice all day long,
    and they exult in your righteousness.
18 [c]You are the strength in which they glory,
    and by your kindness our horn[d] is exalted.

Jeremiah 25:8-14

Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Because you have not listened to my words, I intend to summon all the tribes of the north, says the Lord, as well as my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will totally destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn and everlasting disgrace. 10 No longer will there emerge from them the sounds of rejoicing and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. 11 This entire country will become a wasteland of desolation, and these nations will be enslaved to the king of Babylon for seventy years.

12 However, at the end of those seventy years, says the Lord, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their guilt, and I will turn it into a desolate wasteland. 13 [a]I will inflict upon that land all the scourges that I threatened against it, everything written in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations. 14 Mighty nations and powerful kings will reduce them to a life of slavery, and thus I will requite them as their deeds and their handiwork deserve.

Galatians 5:7-12

Against Being Misled. You were running a good race. Who kept you from obeying the truth? This change did not come from the one who called you. A little yeast leavens the entire batch of dough. 10 I am confident of you in the Lord that none of you will think differently, and that anyone who is trying to confuse you will be condemned, no matter who it is.

11 As for me, brethren, if I were still advocating circumcision,[a] why would I continue to be persecuted? If I were doing that, the cross would no longer be a stumbling block. 12 I wish that those who are confusing you would even castrate themselves!
