Psalm 23

The Lord the Shepherd of His People

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is (A)my shepherd;
(B)I shall not [a]want.
(C)He makes me to lie down in [b]green pastures;
(D)He leads me beside the [c]still waters.
He restores my soul;
(E)He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of (F)the shadow of death,
(G)I will fear no evil;
(H)For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You (I)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You (J)anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will [d]dwell in the house of the Lord
[e]Forever.

Exodus 2:15-25

15 When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But (A)Moses fled from [a]the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of (B)Midian; and he sat down by (C)a well.

16 (D)Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. (E)And they came and drew water, and they filled the (F)troughs to water their father’s flock. 17 Then the (G)shepherds came and (H)drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and (I)watered their flock.

18 When they came to (J)Reuel[b] their father, (K)he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”

19 And they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock.”

20 So he said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may (L)eat bread.”

21 Then Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave (M)Zipporah his daughter to Moses. 22 And she bore him a son. He called his name (N)Gershom,[c] for he said, “I have been (O)a [d]stranger in a foreign land.”

23 Now it happened (P)in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel (Q)groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and (R)their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24 So God (S)heard their groaning, and God (T)remembered His (U)covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God (V)looked upon the children of Israel, and God (W)acknowledged them.

1 Peter 2:9-12

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of (A)darkness into His marvelous light; 10 (B)who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Living Before the World

11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts (C)which war against the soul, 12 (D)having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, (E)they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
