Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A Psalm of David.

24 (A)The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,[a]
    the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has (B)founded it upon (C)the seas
    and established it upon the rivers.

(D)Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
    And who shall stand in his (E)holy place?
(F)He who has (G)clean hands and (H)a pure heart,
    who does not (I)lift up his soul to (J)what is false
    and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive (K)blessing from the Lord
    and (L)righteousness from (M)the God of his salvation.
Such is (N)the generation of those who seek him,
    who (O)seek the face of the God of Jacob.[b] Selah

(P)Lift up your heads, O gates!
    And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
    that (Q)the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty,
    the Lord, (R)mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
    And lift them up, O ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
    (S)The Lord of hosts,
    he is the King of glory! Selah

Isaiah 60:8-16

Who are these that fly like a cloud,
    and (A)like doves to their windows?
For (B)the coastlands shall hope for me,
    (C)the ships of Tarshish first,
(D)to bring your children from afar,
    their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the Lord your God,
    and for the Holy One of Israel,
    because (E)he has made you beautiful.

10 (F)Foreigners shall build up your walls,
    and (G)their kings shall minister to you;
for in my wrath I struck you,
    but in my favor I have had mercy on you.
11 (H)Your gates shall be open continually;
    day and night they shall not be shut,
(I)that people may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
    with their kings led in procession.
12 (J)For the nation and kingdom
    that will not serve you shall perish;
    those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
13 (K)The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
    the cypress, the plane, and (L)the pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary,
    and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 (M)The sons of those who afflicted you
    shall come bending low to you,
(N)and all who despised you
    shall bow down at your feet;
(O)they shall call you the City of the Lord,
    the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 (P)Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
    with no one passing through,
(Q)I will make you majestic forever,
    a joy from age to age.
16 (R)You shall suck the milk of nations;
    you shall nurse at the breast of kings;
and you shall know that (S)I, the Lord, am your Savior
    and your Redeemer, (T)the Mighty One of Jacob.

Luke 1:1-4

Dedication to Theophilus

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that (A)have been accomplished among us, (B)just as those who (C)from the beginning were (D)eyewitnesses and (E)ministers of (F)the word (G)have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write (H)an orderly account for you, (I)most excellent (J)Theophilus, that you may have (K)certainty concerning the things (L)you have been taught.
