Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
21 O Sovereign Lord,
intervene on my behalf for the sake of your reputation.[a]
Because your loyal love is good, deliver me.
22 For I am oppressed and needy,
and my heart beats violently within me.[b]
23 I am fading away like a shadow at the end of the day;[c]
I am shaken off like a locust.
24 I am so starved my knees shake;[d]
I have turned into skin and bones.[e]
25 I am disdained by them.[f]
When they see me, they shake their heads.[g]
26 Help me, O Lord my God.
Because you are faithful to me, deliver me.[h]
27 Then they will realize[i] this is your work,[j]
and that you, Lord, have accomplished it.
28 They curse, but you will bless.[k]
When they attack, they will be humiliated,[l]
but your servant will rejoice.
29 My accusers will be covered[m] with shame,
and draped in humiliation as if it were a robe.
30 I will thank the Lord profusely.[n]
In the middle of a crowd[o] I will praise him,
31 because he stands at the right hand of the needy,
to deliver him from those who threaten[p] his life.
33 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, with a powerful hand and an outstretched arm[a] and with an outpouring of rage, I will be king over you. 34 I will bring you out from the nations and will gather you from the lands where you are scattered, with a powerful hand and an outstretched arm and with an outpouring of rage! 35 I will bring you into the wilderness of the nations, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face. 36 Just as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Sovereign Lord. 37 I will make you pass under[b] the shepherd’s staff,[c] and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. 38 I will eliminate from among you the rebels and those who revolt[d] against me. I will bring them out from the land where they have been residing, but they will not come to the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
39 “‘As for you, O house of Israel, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Each of you go and serve your idols,[e] if you will not listen to me.[f] But my holy name will not be profaned[g] again by your sacrifices[h] and your idols. 40 For there on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord, all the house of Israel will serve me, all of them[i] in the land. I will accept them there, and there I will seek your contributions and your choice gifts, with all your holy things. 41 When I bring you out from the nations and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, I will accept you along with your soothing aroma. I will display my holiness among you in the sight of the nations. 42 Then you will know that I am the Lord when I bring you to the land of Israel, to the land I swore[j] to give to your fathers. 43 And there you will remember your conduct[k] and all your deeds by which you defiled yourselves. You will despise yourselves[l] because of all the evil deeds you have done. 44 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for the sake of my reputation and not according to your wicked conduct and corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
Healing a Withered Hand
6 On[a] another Sabbath, Jesus[b] entered the synagogue[c] and was teaching. Now[d] a man was there whose right hand was withered.[e] 7 The experts in the law[f] and the Pharisees[g] watched[h] Jesus[i] closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath,[j] so that they could find a reason to accuse him. 8 But[k] he knew[l] their thoughts,[m] and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Get up and stand here.”[n] So[o] he rose and stood there. 9 Then[p] Jesus said to them, “I ask you,[q] is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?” 10 After[r] looking around[s] at them all, he said to the man,[t] “Stretch out your hand.” The man[u] did so, and his hand was restored.[v] 11 But they were filled with mindless rage[w] and began debating with one another what they would do[x] to Jesus.
