Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Give Thanks to the Lord
Of David.
138 (A)I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before (B)the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down (C)toward your (D)holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.[a]
3 On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased.[b]
4 (E)All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth,
5 and they shall sing of (F)the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 (G)For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
but the haughty he knows from afar.
7 (H)Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you (I)preserve my life;
you (J)stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your (K)right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will (L)fulfill his purpose for me;
(M)your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake (N)the work of your hands.
7 In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, (A)they cast Pur (that is, they cast lots) before Haman day after day; and they cast it month after month till the twelfth month, which is (B)the month of Adar. 8 Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom. (C)Their laws are different from those of every other people, and they do not keep the king's laws, so that it is not to the king's profit to tolerate them. 9 If it please the king, let it be decreed that they be destroyed, and I will pay 10,000 talents[a] of silver into the hands of those who have charge of the king's business, that they may put it into the king's treasuries.” 10 (D)So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman (E)the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, (F)the enemy of the Jews. 11 And the king said to Haman, “The money is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.”
12 (G)Then the king's scribes were summoned on the thirteenth day of the first month, and an edict, according to all that Haman commanded, was written to the king's (H)satraps and to the governors over all the provinces and to the officials of all the peoples, (I)to every province in its own script and every people in its own language. It was written (J)in the name of King Ahasuerus (K)and sealed with the king's signet ring. 13 Letters were sent (L)by couriers to all the king's provinces with instruction (M)to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all Jews, young and old, women and children, (N)in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, (O)and to plunder their goods. 14 (P)A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province by proclamation to all the peoples to be ready for that day. 15 (Q)The couriers went out hurriedly by order of the king, and the decree was issued in Susa the citadel. And the king and Haman sat down to drink, (R)but the city of Susa was thrown into confusion.
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, (A)a man attested to you by God (B)with (C)mighty works and wonders and signs that (D)God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus,[a] (E)delivered up according to (F)the definite plan and (G)foreknowledge of God, (H)you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 (I)God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because (J)it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,
(K)“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell (L)in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to (M)Hades,
(N)or let your (O)Holy One (P)see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about (Q)the patriarch David (R)that he both died and (S)was buried, and (T)his tomb is with us to this day. 30 (U)Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that (V)God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that (W)he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus (X)God raised up, (Y)and of that we all are witnesses. 33 (Z)Being therefore (AA)exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from (AB)the Father (AC)the promise of the Holy Spirit, (AD)he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For (AE)David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
(AF)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that (AG)God has made him (AH)both Lord and Christ, this Jesus (AI)whom you crucified.”
