Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Yodh
73 (A)Your hands have made and fashioned me;
(B)give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
74 Those who fear you shall see me and (C)rejoice,
because I have (D)hoped in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are (E)righteous,
and that in (F)faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Let your steadfast love comfort me
according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your (G)mercy come to me, that I may live;
for your law is my (H)delight.
78 Let (I)the insolent be put to (J)shame,
because they have (K)wronged me with falsehood;
as for me, I will (L)meditate on your precepts.
79 Let those who fear you (M)turn to me,
that they may know your testimonies.
80 May my heart be (N)blameless in your statutes,
(O)that I may not be put to shame!
10 (A)To whom shall I speak and give warning,
that they may hear?
(B)Behold, their ears are uncircumcised,
(C)they cannot listen;
behold, (D)the word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn;
they take no pleasure in it.
11 Therefore I am full of the wrath of the Lord;
(E)I am weary of holding it in.
(F)“Pour it out upon the children in the street,
and upon the gatherings of young men, also;
(G)both husband and wife (H)shall be taken,
the elderly and the very aged.
12 (I)Their houses shall be turned over to others,
their fields and wives together,
for I will stretch out my hand
against the inhabitants of the land,”
declares the Lord.
13 (J)“For from the least to the greatest of them,
everyone (K)is greedy for unjust gain;
and from (L)prophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.
14 They have healed the wound of my people lightly,
saying, (M)‘Peace, peace,’
(N)when there is no peace.
15 (O)Were they ashamed when they committed abomination?
No, they were not at all ashamed;
they did not know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
(P)at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,”
says the Lord.
16 Thus says the Lord:
“Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for (Q)the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
(R)and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 (S)I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Pay attention to (T)the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, (U)‘We will not pay attention.’
18 Therefore hear, O nations,
and know, O congregation, what will happen to them.
19 Hear, O earth; behold, I am bringing disaster upon this people,
(V)the fruit of their devices,
because they have not paid attention to my words;
and as for my law, they have rejected it.
A Riot at Ephesus
21 Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit (A)to pass through (B)Macedonia and Achaia and (C)go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, (D)I must also see Rome.” 22 And having sent into Macedonia two of (E)his helpers, (F)Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia (G)for a while.
23 About that time (H)there arose no little disturbance concerning (I)the Way. 24 For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, (J)brought no little business to the craftsmen. 25 (K)These he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth. 26 And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, (L)saying that (M)gods made with hands are not gods. 27 And there is danger not only that this trade of ours may come into disrepute but also that the temple of the (N)great goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.”
