Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
37 1 This Psalm containeth exhortation and consolation for the weak, that are grieved at the prosperity of the wicked, and the affliction of the godly. 7 For how prosperously soever the wicked do live for the time, he doth affirm their felicity to be vain and transitory, because they are not in the favor of God, but in the end they are destroyed as his enemies. 11 And how miserably that the righteous seemeth to live in the world, yet his end is peace, and he is in the favor of God, he is delivered from the wicked, and preserved.
A Psalm of David.
1 Fret not [a]thyself because of the wicked men, neither be envious for the evildoers.
2 For they shall soon be [b]cut down like grass, and shall wither as the green herb.
3 [c]Trust thou in the Lord and do good: dwell in the land, and thou shalt be fed assuredly:
4 And delight thyself in the Lord, and he shall give thee thine heart’s desire.
5 [d]Commit thy way unto the Lord, and trust in him, and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy [e]judgment as the noon day.
7 Wait patiently upon the Lord, and hope in him: fret not thyself for him [f]which prospereth in his way, nor for the man that bringeth his enterprises to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and leave off wrath: fret not thyself [g]also to do evil.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off, and they that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the land.
10 [h]Therefore yet a little while and the wicked shall not appear, and thou shalt look after his place, and he shall not be found.
11 But (A)meek men shall possess the earth, and shall have their delight in the multitude of peace.
39 But the [a]salvation of the righteous men shall be of the Lord: he shall be their strength in the time of trouble.
40 For the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and shall save them, because they trust in him.
16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said [a]to his steward, Bring these men home and kill meat, and make ready: for the men shall eat with me at noon.
17 And the men did as Joseph bade, and brought the men unto Joseph’s house.
18 Now when the men were brought into Joseph’s house, they were [b]afraid, and said, Because of the money, that came in our sack’s mouths at the first time, are we brought, that he may [c]pick a quarrel against us, and [d]lay something to our charge, and bring us in bondage and our asses.
19 Therefore came they to Joseph’s steward, and communed with him at the door of his house,
20 And said, O sir, (A)we came indeed down hither at the first time to buy food,
21 And as we came to an Inn and opened our sacks, behold, every man’s money was in his sack’s mouth, even our money in full weight, but we have brought it in our hands.
22 Also other money have we brought in our hands to buy food, but we cannot tell, who put our money in our sacks.
23 And he said, [e]Peace be to you, fear not: [f]your God, and the God of your father hath given you that treasure in your sacks, I had your money: and he brought forth Simeon to them.
24 So the man led them into Joseph’s house, and gave them water to wash their feet, and gave their asses provender.
25 And they made ready their present against Joseph came at noon, (for they heard say, that they should eat bread there.)
26 When Joseph came home, they brought the present into the house to him, which was in their hands, and bowed down to the ground before him.
27 And he asked them of their [g]prosperity, and said, Is your father the old man, of whom ye told me, in good health? is he yet alive?
28 Who answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive: and they bowed down, and made obeisance.
29 And he lifting up his eyes, beheld his brother Benjamin, his [h]mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother of whom ye told me? And he said, God be merciful unto thee, my son.
30 And Joseph made haste (for his [i]affection was inflamed toward his brother, and sought where to weep) and entered into his chamber and wept there.
31 Afterward he washed his face, and came out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on [j]meat.
32 And they [k]prepared for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves, because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews: for that was an [l]abomination unto the Egyptians.
33 So they sat before him: the eldest according unto his age, and the youngest according unto his youth: and the men marveled among themselves.
34 And they took meats from before him, and sent to them: but Benjamin’s meat was five times so much as any of theirs: and they drank, [m]and had of the best drink with him.
8 1 He concludeth that there is no condemnation to them, who are grafted in Christ through his Spirit, 3 howsoever they be as yet burdened with sins: 9 For they live through that Spirit, 14 Whose testimony, 15 driveth away all fear, 28 and relieveth our present miseries.
1 Now [a]then there is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, which [b]walk not after the [c]flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 [d]For the [e]Law of the Spirit of [f]life which is in [g]Christ Jesus, hath [h]freed me from the Law of sin and of death.
3 [i]For (that that was [j]impossible to the Law, inasmuch as it was weak, because of the [k]flesh) God sending his own Son, in the similitude of [l]sinful flesh, and for [m]sin, [n]condemned sin in the flesh,
4 That that [o]righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled [p]in us, which walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 [q]For they that are after the [r]flesh, savor the things of the flesh: but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 [s]For the wisdom of the flesh is death: but the wisdom of the Spirit is life and peace,
7 [t]Because the wisdom of the flesh is enmity against God: [u]for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 [v]So then they that are in the flesh, cannot please God.
9 [w]Now ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, because the spirit of God dwelleth in you: but if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, the same is not his.
10 [x]And if Christ be in you, the [y]body is dead, because of sin: but the Spirit is life for righteousness sake.
11 [z]But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortal bodies, by his Spirit that [aa]dwelleth in you.
