Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Book One
The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked
1 Blessed is the man[a]
who (A)walks not in (B)the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in (C)the way of sinners,
nor (D)sits in (E)the seat of (F)scoffers;
2 but his (G)delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his (H)law he meditates day and night.
The Sin of Judah
17 “The sin of Judah is written with (A)a pen of iron; with a point of diamond it is engraved on (B)the tablet of their heart, and on (C)the horns of their altars, 2 while (D)their children remember their altars and their (E)Asherim, (F)beside every green tree and on the high hills, 3 (G)on the mountains in the open country. (H)Your wealth and all your treasures I will give for spoil as the price of your high places for sin throughout all your territory. 4 You shall loosen your hand from your heritage that I gave to you, (I)and I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, (J)for in my anger a fire is kindled that shall burn forever.”
Return of an Unclean Spirit
24 (A)“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through (B)waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And (C)the last state of that person is worse than the first.”
True Blessedness
27 As he said these things, (D)a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, (E)“Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, (F)“Blessed rather are those (G)who hear the word of God and (H)keep it!”
