Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
23 (A)You who fear the Lord, praise Him!
All you [a]descendants of Jacob, glorify Him,
And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Nor has He hidden His face from Him;
But (B)when He cried to Him, He heard.
25 (C)My praise shall be of You in the great assembly;
(D)I will pay My vows before those who fear Him.
26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.
Let your heart live forever!
27 All the ends of the world
Shall remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the families of the [b]nations
Shall worship before [c]You.
28 (E)For the kingdom is the Lord’s,
And He rules over the nations.
29 (F)All the prosperous of the earth
Shall eat and worship;
(G)All those who go down to [d]the dust
Shall bow before Him,
Even he who cannot keep himself alive.
30 A posterity shall serve Him.
It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation,
31 They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born,
That He has done this.
7 Now the (A)Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, (B)by the spring on the way to (C)Shur. 8 And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”
9 The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and (D)submit yourself under her hand.” 10 Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, (E)“I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.” 11 And the Angel of the Lord said to her:
“Behold, you are with child,
(F)And you shall bear a son.
You shall call his name [a]Ishmael,
Because the Lord has heard your affliction.
12 (G)He shall be a wild man;
His hand shall be against every man,
And every man’s hand against him.
(H)And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”
13 Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-[b]the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here [c]seen Him (I)who sees me?” 14 Therefore the well was called (J)Beer Lahai Roi;[d] observe, it is (K)between Kadesh and Bered.
15 So (L)Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(A)
27 (B)Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”
28 So they answered, (C)“John the Baptist; but some say, (D)Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said to Him, (E)“You are the Christ.”
30 (F)Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.
