Psalm 145:1-8

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise; by David.

145 I will extol you, my God, O King.
I will praise your name continually.[b]
Every day I will praise you.
I will praise your name continually.[c]
The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise.
No one can fathom his greatness.[d]
One generation will praise your deeds to another,
and tell about your mighty acts.[e]
I will focus on your honor and majestic splendor,
and your amazing deeds.[f]
They will proclaim[g] the power of your awesome acts.
I will declare your great deeds.
They will talk about the fame of your great kindness,[h]
and sing about your justice.[i]
The Lord is merciful and compassionate;
he is patient[j] and demonstrates great loyal love.[k]

Nahum 1:1

Introduction

This is an oracle[a] about Nineveh; the book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite:[b]

Nahum 1:14-2:2

Oracle of Judgment against the King of Nineveh

14 The Lord has issued a decree against you:[a]
“Your dynasty will come to an end.[b]
I will destroy the idols and images in the temples of your gods.
I will desecrate[c] your grave, because you are accursed!”[d]

Proclamation of the Deliverance of Judah

15 (2:1)[e] Look! A herald is running[f] on the mountains!
A messenger is proclaiming deliverance:[g]
“Celebrate your sacred festivals, O Judah!
Fulfill your sacred vows to praise God![h]
For never again[i] will the wicked[j] Assyrians[k] invade[l] you;
they[m] have been completely destroyed.”[n]

Proclamation of the Destruction of Nineveh

(2:2) An enemy who will scatter[o] you, Nineveh,[p] has advanced[q] against you![r]
Guard[s] the rampart![t]
Watch the road!
Prepare yourselves for battle![u]
Muster your mighty strength![v]
For the Lord is about to restore[w] the majesty[x] of Jacob,
as well as[y] the majesty of Israel,
though[z] their enemies have plundered them[aa]
and have destroyed their fields.[ab]

2 Corinthians 13:1-4

Paul’s Third Visit to Corinth

13 This is the third time I am coming to visit[a] you. By the testimony[b] of two or three witnesses every matter will be established.[c] I said before when I was present the second time and now, though absent, I say again to those who sinned previously and to all the rest, that if I come again, I will not spare anyone,[d] since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He[e] is not weak toward you but is powerful among you. For indeed he was crucified by reason of weakness, but he lives because of God’s power. For we also are weak in him, but we will live together with him, because of God’s power toward you.
